Word for 2018-abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for. We will also see these in the Old Testament as well. Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 11  Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in booths, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.”   (2 Samuel 11:11) 19  Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why do you also go with us? Go back ...

Promises of God from 2 Samuel

Be reminded of who God is today as you read these promises from 2 Samuel: “How great you are, O Sovereign Lord!   There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears” (7:22).   “O Sovereign Lord, you are God!   Your words are trustworthy, and you have given this good promise to your servant” (7:28).   “I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies” (22:4).   “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless.   He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.   For who is God besides the Lord?   And who is the Rock except our God?   It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect” (22:31-33).
