Kid's Christmas Program at HMBC

Image
Today is the Kid's Christmas Program at Hesston MB.  Join us at 10:10 for our worship service which will include 2 and 3 year old and preschool and Kindergarten Go Deeper Hour Classes singing as well as the Hide N Seek Kid's Choir. As I always say, you never know what will happen at a Christmas program. A special thanks to Lisa Yoder, Traci Hickman, and Nancy Hofer for all their work on Wednesday nights with the choir.  The program this year is titled, "Angels, Say What?" Here are a few pictures of programs over the years:

Promotion Sunday

Image
Promotion Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year because it signals the beginning of our year in Go Deeper Hour.  On this day, we introduce new teachers for all of our classes for kids, youth and adults.  We give Hesston MB bags filled with goodies to our 1st graders because they promote out of Children's Church and we give Bibles to our 3rd graders. Adults, which class are you attending this year?  There is something for everyone.  Try one and if it is not what you are looking for, try another one.  I believe we have classes with a variety of topics and variety of teaching styles.  If you have questions about the classes, please let me know. I look forward to celebrating Promotion Sunday with you today!

Go Deeper Hour Books

I love to teach!  One of the things I missed most during the last 3 months while I was preaching was teaching an adult class during Go Deeper Hour (Sunday School).  I believe every person needs an opportunity to not just listen to a preacher or teacher, but to also process what they are learning in their head, heart, and hands.  This is why I am a firm believer in Sunday School and small groups.  Both of these provide people the opportunity to ask questions as well as process what they are hearing and thinking. SO, let me encourage every person--child, youth and adult to join a Go Deeper Hour Class if you attend Hesston MB.  But also want to encourage you no matter where you go to church, find a Sunday School class or Small group to join and participate in.  If you don't like the one you attend, try another class.  Don't just give up!   It is important for you. For the next year, the class I lead will be going through 2 books together as well ...

Friday Discipleship

Image
If you are regular reader of the blog, on Fridays I have shared new books, favorite books, and most recently kid books.  Now, I am going to share discipleship resources that I would recommend each Friday. We used this resource this past year in our Go Deeper Hour with adults. This book prompted great discussions on a variety of topics.  Sauls has a free study guide available that goes along with the book.  Many in my class commented how it challenged them to think more deeply about difficult topics facing the church and culture.

We used this resource this past year in our Go Deeper Hour with adults.  It has a DVD to go along with the book.  Matt does a great job of telling stories and how they relate to the Christian life.  I highly recommend this for your small group or Sunday School class.  I wish we would have had more time to spend on this book as it has so many great truths.

It's Promotion Sunday!

It's that time again!  It's Promotion Sunday.  I love this day as we kick off our new Go Deeper Hour classes.  For kids, they could be moving to a new room and a new teacher.  It is also the day we recognize our teachers/helpers as they "make disciples who make disciples."  We also take time to give gifts to our new First Graders (who receive a bag full of goodies) as they promote out of Children's Church and we give Bibles to our new Third Graders.  It is also a day of fellowship including a brunch for our adults after all the class/teacher introductions.  Pastor Brad also gives his "State of the Church" address during the worship service .  In the evening this year, we are gathering all of our Big Groups together for an evening of fun through games, cold treats, and a pool party.  Times and locations are listed below: 9:00 a.m.-Promotion Sunday-All ages please gather in the sanctuary 10:10 a.m.-Worship Service 6:30 p.m.-Big Group...

It's been a few weeks since I have posted new books that I plan to read soon. I look forward to this one as I prepare to teach Galatians in Adult Go Deeper Class.

You Can Do It

Image
Do you think that you are unable to study God's Word?  Are parts of the Bible difficult to understand?  Do you look forward to Bible Study or Sunday so you can learn more from the Bible?   What if you did not have to wait until someone taught you the Bible, but you could do it on your own?  You can do it!  The same Holy Spirit who guides me into all truth is dwelling inside of you as well as a believer.  If you still have doubts, a great book to help you become more comfortable with studying the Bible on your own is The New How to Study Your Bible by Kay Arthur.  It goes through the inductive Bible study method that I learned at Sterling College from Erma Prutow and I also teach in the Go Deeper Hour.   I would encourage you today to start in John or Ephesians and begin studying His Word throughout the week so you can grow in your relationship with Jesus and be empowered to make decisions throughout your day.
