Christ is our Savior

This is a new weekly post connecting who God is with who we are because of what He has DONE.  These are true because it is about God and His relationship toward us not anything we must DO. Jesus is our Savior For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior , who is Christ the Lord.  (Luke 2:11)  And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (1 John 4:14) So...We are Saved! For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)  Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his mighty power. (Psalm 106:8) And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved . (Joel 2:32) And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved . (Acts 4:12)  ...

Gospel is for both

I resonate with the quote below as it has been part of my journey to this same understanding of the Gospel.  It is from One Way Love by Tullian Tchividjian. Specifically, the breakthrough in understanding the Gospel to be just as much for Christians as it is for non-Christians. I once assumed (along with the vast majority of professing Christians) that the Gospel was simply what non-Christians must believe in order to be saved before advancing to deeper theological waters after their conversion. I didn't realize that once God rescues sinners, His plan isn't to steer us beyond the Gospel but to move us more deeply into it. The good news that Jesus paid it all not only ignites the Christian life but fuels it as well. As my friend, J.D. Greear puts it, "The gospel is not just the diving board off of which we jump into the pool of Christianity. . .it is the pool that we swim in each and every day."

What are we saved from?

We know that Christ saved us.  But many times we have a small view of that salvation.  Mark Driscoll shares in Who Do You Think You Are? six things we are saved from.  He writes: "In Christ, we're saved from six things: sin, death, worldly living, Satan, our old nature, and the wrath of God." Today, be thankful and encouraged knowing that salvation is more than just dealing with your sin.  Because we are in Christ, we have been saved from so much more!
