My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 6  “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have chosen the word, gospel, to think about and meditate on in 2016.  Gospel in the Greek literally means, "good news."  My best definition of gospel is the "life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ." I hope to have a deeper understanding of the word and definition at the end of 2016. Previous post here Here are a few verses using the word: 14  And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14) 13  Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” (Matthew 26:13)

God is always faithful to his covenant promises, and his fulfillment of the messianic prophecies far exceeds what anyone could have imagined.   The people were hoping for freedom from physical and political bondage, but Jesus offered something far greater—freedom from the bondage of sin and of death. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (11:28-30). Because Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (16:16), he is bigger than our problems and worthy of our supreme trust and obedience. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus, and he has empowered each believer to manifest and share the good news of new life in him (28:18-20).
