Stewardship IS Discipleship by Jon Wiebe

Colossians 3:23 2300 verses in the Bible about money and possessions 16 of 38 parables told by Jesus were about money/possessions Mark 4:18-20 Worries of this life Deceitfulness of wealth Desires for other things Key Questions for the church: What are you doing to help lead your church to overcome the grip of materialism? How equipped are you to present the different between fund raising and biblical stewardship? What is your church offering people to help them overcome the power of money to deceive? Theology Basics  (ask for self first, then for the church) God is the creator and owner of all things. God gives the ability to produce wealth. Money is a major competitor to God. Money is a test.

Dating Anniversary

Image
Do you remember your first date with your spouse?  I do.  It was today (January 28, 1995) when Bethany and I had our first date.  I remember it well because as a man I was a little slow knowing it was even a date. Interested?  Keep reading. Bethany and I met the first day of orientation at Sterling College in front of Culbertson Auditorium.  We spent a lot of time together because Bethany knew my roommates.  I would have started dating her immediately, but she was not as easily convinced.  Therefore, I determined that dating was out of the picture. However, during interterm we had a class together called "Civil War" and we were out of class before any other interterm class so we spent a lot of time talking, playing ping pong and pool in the snack bar, and sitting on the couches in the Student Union.  I had a job interview in Wichita and so I had asked Bethany (since she lived in Wichita) if she would ride along to get me to my interview and fo...

Weekend to Remember

Have you ever attended a Weekend to Remember? If not, I would recommend the weekend to all couples. We have done the Art of Marriage (also by Family Life) at Hesston MB the last two years and will probably host again in 2015, but have not made plans for Art of Marriage in 2014.  Check out details for Wichita here  or Kansas City here When registering, please use our group name HesstonMB because for every 5 couples registered, we receive one free registration. It also allows you to register at $100 off total registration. I will have a drawing for a free registration for the couple who contacts me via email or posts on the Hesston MB Facebook page telling me they want to attend by February 9th . Let Pastor J.L. know if you have questions.

Fun Saturday

Yesterday was a great Saturday!  It started out by sleeping late.  For those who know me, this is a highlight. I love my sleep.  Then it was a lazy morning with the whole family at home.  It seems like this has not happened in several weeks.  Then Mitchell, Molly and I headed to the Turkey Shoot at the Middle School.  We had a good time and we each made a few free throws.  Bethany had to cover lunches at Faith and Life so Mackenzie and Megan went with her. After the turkey shoot, we headed to Panda Kitchen for lunch.  It was tasty!  Then it was time for Mitchell to go to a basketball clinic at the high school.  So, Molly and I headed to the Wellness Center to swim.  We had fun playing some games and swimming around.  Towards the end, Molly decided she enjoyed the acoustics at the indoor pool and began making up songs.  Another lady in the pool commented on her singing and the "joy" she brought her as she sang. We then ...
