This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: Once For All by Zac Hicks & Coral Ridge Worship

Playing on the Radio

Image
Well, actually this song is not playing on the radio, but it should be.  This is one of my favorites on my playlist.  It reminds me of Christ's words on the cross, "It is finished."  Be reminded today that Christ has done it all. Now rest. 1. I am weary, worn out Who will deliver me? I am heavy, burdened Who will deliver me?    Though I sink in guilt and shame: grace flows deeper Though I run against your will: grace runs faster Though I hide away from You: grace comes nearer Spirit help me know:    It is finished, It is finished No more running, no more hiding Now my weary soul can rest It is finished, It is finished No more striving, no more taking All in Christ I now possess It is finished     2. I am failing, unable, Who will deliver me? I am fearful, faithless Who will deliver me?    Bridge: No condemnation No guilty shame No past to haunt me None in Christ, None in Christ    Gone is my reco...

Personal Thoughts from Sabbatical

I have been on Sabbatical since May 1st.  In many ways, it is going so fast.  I cannot believe school is out this week.  Here are a few thoughts from recent days at home or from prayer/reflection days: ABIDE-This word continues to be brought to mind. During this time of sabbatical, I want to spend time in relationship with Jesus.  Some days this includes a nap, other days it is reading His Word, sometimes it is showing love to my family, or bike rides while singing songs of praise. I read John 15:1-17 and was amazed at how much Jesus wants to be in relationship with us.  Do you understand? The God who created the world, the Son who lived, died and rose again, the Spirit who raised Christ from the dead, this Triune God wants to be in relationship with you and me.  What a wonderful gift! What should I be DOING?  When you don't go to work from 8-5 each day and do not have meetings to attend, you have some free time.  As a human, my tendency i...

Come Witness This Gospel To Me

Here is the final song off of the new album by Zac Hicks and Coral Ridge Worship. We did not sing this song at Liberate 2015, but I appreciated the words and explanation of the song at Zac Hicks blog. Be reminded of the good news as you read these lyrics or listen to the song. Listen here Come Witness This Gospel to Me Words & Music: Zac Hicks, 2014 ©2014 Unbudding Fig Music (ASCAP) 1. O Holy Spirit, O One who was there To witness the anger that God didn't spare To witness a verdict both just and unfair O Holy Spirit, O One who was there 2. You saw on His face all the judgment of hell My story of shame that I cannot untell How heavy my burden of blame when it fell! You saw on His face all the judgment of hell Come witness this gospel to me Remembrancer, this is my plea: Preach Christ till He's all that I see Come witness this gospel to me 3. You saw in His dying the death of my sin The Son's bleeding body, I'm hidden therein Where all of my poiso...

Gospel Doxology

I grew up singing the Doxology in church.  So, when I heard this new song by Zac Hicks at Liberate 2015, it brought back memories, but created new ones with extra verses that teach the gospel.  Enjoy this song as you listen & read the lyrics. Listen here Law Gospel Doxology Words: Zac Hicks & Julie Anne Osterhus, 2014 Music: Traditional ©2014 Unbudding Fig Music (ASCAP), Julie Anne Osterhus Your perfect law exposes me I feel my sin and desperate need My best good works are powerless To satisfy Your righteousness But there is One who lived for me His life, my only victory His death forever sealed in time That I am His and He is mine Praise God from Whom all blessings flow Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above ye heavenly host Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Come and Make Us Free

This is a new song from Zac Hicks that we learned at Liberate 2015.  I have included lyrics below.  Be reminded of what Jesus has done for us and how that makes us free. You can listen here 1. I’m a doubter of Your grace And my heart won’t cease Seeking love in every place But Your perfect arms of peace Though I see that all my longings Find their journey’s end in you Oft they wander in the byways Cheaply lured by every hue All our hearts long for, we find in You, O Lord Help us want You more, than idols we adore Give us eyes to see your matchless beauty Shatter unbelief, come and make us free 2. I’m a slave to lowly thoughts That I cannot shake Lust of eyes and pride of life Hardened heart that ne’er will break Though I hear that You alone can Make this stone a heart of flesh Oft in bitterness I linger Choosing chains, not freedom’s rest 3. I’m addicted to the lie That my thirsty soul Can be quenched by earth’s supply Vainly seized by my control Though I know ...

Once For All

Image
Here is another great song that I learned at Liberate last year.  Lyrics are below. Be reminded of what Jesus has done for you.  The bridge includes only three words: it is finished. Listen here 1. Free from the law, O happy condition, Jesus has bled and there is remission, Cursed by the law and bruised by the fall, Grace has redeemed us once for all. Chorus: Once for all, O sinner, receive it, Once for all, O doubter, believe it; Cling to the cross, the burden will fall, Christ has redeemed us once for all. 2. Now we are free, there’s no condemnation, Jesus provides a perfect salvation. “Come unto Me,” O hear His sweet call, Come, and He saves us once for all. 3. Children of God, O glorious calling, Surely His grace will keep us from falling; Passing from death to life at His call; Blessed salvation once for all. Bridge: It is finished credits from His Be the Victor's Name , ...

I am reposting this song that I hope we will sing at Liberate 2015.  It is by Zac Hicks and is great reminder of the gospel.

God Has Decided

Be reminded of what God has done for you today.  Below you find a portion of a blog post from Zac Hicks explaining this song: It is this same impulse that led us to take a beloved sung prayer like “I Have Decided,” turn it on its head, and re-give it to the Church. How will people actually be motivated to love and follow God, to commit to Him, and to not turn back? Well, the counter-intuitive message of the gospel is that it isn’t by singing about what we’re doing for God, but by what God has done for us. Our security in being able to follow God is grounded in the surety that God first followed us. He tracked us down when we were running hard, He defeated us, and He raised us to life. And so we sing: God has decided to save my lost soul… No turning back, no turning back. Christ has decided to die in my place… No turning back, no turning back. The Holy Spirit now lives inside me… No turning back, no turning back. The love of God will forever hold me….He won’t let go, ...

It Is Finished

The song below are from a new song by Zac Hicks and Julie Vargas.  I look forward to singing this song in February at Liberate.  I love the lyrics.  Be reminded as you read what Jesus finished work on the cross means for you. I am fearful, faithless Who will deliver me?  Bridge: No condemnation No guilty shame No past to haunt me None in Christ, None in Christ  Gone is my record Gone my regrets Gone is my failure Gone in Christ, Gone in C...

From the Depths of Woe

Here is another song we sang at Liberate 2014. It is based on Psalm 130. Be reminded of the God who is in this song.  From depths of woe I raise to Thee The voice of lamentation; Lord, turn a gracious ear to me And hear my supplication; If Thou iniquities dost mark, Our secret sins and misdeeds dark, O who shall stand before Thee? To wash away the crimson stain, Grace, grace alone availeth; Our works, alas! are all in vain; In much the best life faileth: No man can glory in Thy sight, All must alike confess Thy might, And live alone by mercy. Therefore my trust is in the Lord, And not in mine own merit; On Him my soul shall rest, His Word Upholds my fainting spirit: His promised mercy is my fort, My comfort, and my sweet support; I wait for it with patience. What though I wait the livelong night, And till the dawn appeareth, My heart still trusteth in His might; It doubteth not nor feareth: Do thus, O ye of Israel’s seed, Ye of the Spirit born indeed;...

His Be The Victor's Name

Here is another song we sang at Liberate 2014.  Think about the words. You can listen below.  I also encourage you to return  here  to listen to "Once For All". His Be the Victor's Name 1. His be the Victor's Name Who fought the fight alone; Triumphant saints no honor claim; Their conquest was His own. 2. By weakness and defeat He won the glorious crown; Trod all His foes beneath His feet By being trodden down. What though the vile accuser roar Of sins that I have done; I know them well, and thousands more; My God, He knoweth none 3. He hell in hell laid low; Made sin, He sin o'erthrew; Bowed to the grave, destroyed it so, And death, by dying, slew. 4. Bless, bless the Conqueror slain, Slain by divine decree! Who lived, who died, who lives again, For thee, my soul, for thee. My sin is cast into the sea Of God’s forgotten memory No more to haunt accusingly For Christ has lived and died for me His Be the Victor's Name by Zac Hicks...
