For 2017, I chose the phrase "in Christ" to focus on.  I am about to wrap up this look at union with Christ, but I have a few more weeks to go to finish in 2018. Each week, I will post verse(s) that includes the phrase "in Christ". As I mentioned in a previous post, I have chosen the word, gospel, to think about and meditate on in 2016.  Gospel in the Greek literally means, "good news." My best definition of gospel is the "life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ." I hope to have a deeper understanding of the word and definition at the end of 2016. Here are selected promises of God from 2 Timothy compiled by Kenneth Boa: God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline (1:7). God has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace (1:9). The grace of God has been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (1:10). God is able to guard what we have entrusted to him for the day when we see him (1:12). All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (3:16-17). The Lord will rescue us from every evil attack and will bring us safely to his heavenly kingdom (4:18).

My word for 2014 is power.  It is the Greek word, dynamis. It can refer to human power, but most often it focuses on God's power which may be given to us.  An example of that is seen in today's verse from 2 Timothy. 7  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.         (2 Timothy 1:7)
