Names of God: Yahweh Tsidqenuw

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Tsidqenuw Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Tsidqenuw means righteousness. 5  “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord , when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6  In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The L...

Word for 2018-abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for. We will also see these in the Old Testament as well. Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 10  ‘If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I have relented concerning the disaster I have inflicted on you.              (Jeremiah 42:10) 18 As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns, says the Lord , “so no one will live there; no ...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 31  “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord , when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32  not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord . 33  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord : I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34  And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord ,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares t...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 4  Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” 6  Then I said, “Ah, Lord God ! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” 7  But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8  Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord .” 9  Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. (Jeremiah 1:4-9)

More Promises of God from Jeremiah

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.   In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety.   This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness” (23:5-6). “My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land.   I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.   I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord.   They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart” (24:6-7). “‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.   Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.   You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’” (29:11-13)...

Promises of God from Jeremiah

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (1:5). “Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.   Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you” (7:23). “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on the earth, for in these I delight” (9:23-24). “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord.   But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him” (17:5, 7).
