Hide N Seek Leader's Meeting

Image
Tonight, I meet with all of our Hide N Seek leaders to prepare them for the year ahead.  These leaders are so important as they "make disciples who make disciples" with our children 4 years old through 4th grade.  It is a blessing to see these leaders use their gifts to glorify God and further His kingdom.  Please remember to pray for leaders who invest in the next generation.  Thank you to everyone who said yes to Hide N Seek, fuzion, LIFE, and Hesston Youth for this year!  We appreciate you and I will definitely pray for you.

Book Review: Rediscovering Discipleship

Image
I received an advance copy of the book Rediscovering Discipleship: Making Jesus' Final Words Our First Work by Robby Gallaty.  Robby was the pastor of Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN and has recently moved to Nashville to pastor Long Hollow Baptist Church.  I have also read his previous book, Growing up: How to Be a Disciple Who Makes Disciples. He is also the author of Firmly Planted. Robby and I have similar passions.  We are firmly convinced that discipleship is lacking in the church and needs to be our focus.  Gallaty writes, "Until disciple-making becomes the ministry of the church and not a ministry in the church, we will never see our discipleship efforts impact the world the way that Jesus envisioned." Pastor Brad gave me the book pictured for Christmas.  We are going through this book as a church on the third Sunday of the month helping people go deeper in their relationship with Jesus.  I look forward to the discussions.

Talking and Thinking

I love reading books!  I could not have made that statement 10 years ago.  Each time I read Scripture or a new book, it challenges my thinking and I cannot keep it in.  I have to share with someone over coffee, at a meeting or on this blog. Here are a few things I am pondering these days: The depth of what Jesus accomplished on the cross Our need of the gospel every day not just at salvation This leads to a greater love for people because no one is beyond God's grace My identity in Christ and how that affects the way I live Making disciples with individuals at various places on the spiritual journey Our view of God dramatically affects our faith Keeping Jesus at center of everything at church  The power available to us via the Holy Spirit and how to use it What are you pondering these days?
