Community VBS Service Today

Image
The Hesston Community is invited to a Community VBS Service today at 10:30 a.m. at Hesston High School. This is a great opportunity to worship with others from our community who attend other churches.  Also, it is a great way to support our kids who will be singing songs and reading Scripture from VBS week.  This service is all about the kids. Don't use this as an excuse to stay home, but join us at 10:30 a.m. For those who need extra assistance, there will be golf carts in the parking lot to help you get to the high school doors.   There is not regular Go Deeper Hour or a worship service at Hesston MB.

Everyday Prayers by Scotty Smith

Below is a portion of a prayer from Everyday Prayers by Scotty Smith: I praise you for friends who’ve helped me understand the lyric of the gospel—theology. As a young convert my arrogant mantra was, “Don’t give me theology, just give me Jesus.” My sentiments were good, but my sensibilities were shoddy. To speak the name Jesus is to do theology. Thank you for patient teachers who have opened the Scriptures and have shown me the real Jesus—the one who lived and died in my place and who is making all things new.  I praise you for friends who’ve helped me hear and experience the music of the gospel. For those broken and beautiful saints who have helped me get a taste of the radical goodness of the gospel—its life-giving liberty, its healing melody, its soul-engaging joy—I praise you, Father. Now I know you to be a God who greatly delights in your people, who quiets us with his love, who rejoices over us with singing. This is astonishing, even shocking, and it’s all because of wha...

Service Sunday

Today, Hesston MB has left the building.  After a brief time of worship and prayer, our church is headed out into the community to love and serve people.  Below you will see our t-shirts that remind us of our desire to disciple head, heart and hands.  I look forward to hearing the stories of what God does in and through us!

Matt Smay at #Exponential

Love God. Love Others. Engaging culture allowed us to form relationships. Out of these relationships, we began to form community. Then it became a structured congregation. Communion with God, Community, Mission were 3 elements of forming community. The answer lies in formed community. Matthew 28-GO AND MAKE-we try to choose. Our personalities lead us to one. As leaders, we don't like tension. If you multiply communities, you will multiply churches.

Single Parent's Day Out

Image
Today, Hesston MB is hosting a single parent's day out. This gives single parents an opportunity to go Christmas shopping, enjoy some time alone reading a book or sipping coffee, or get some projects done at home. I have some great workers who volunteer their time in service for this event. Thank you to Jennifer, Joanna, Travis, Jared, Sara, Mike, Nancy, Isaac & Morgan! It is a great way to serve your community and be a blessing to single parents during the Christmas season. The picture below is the schedule that I have put together that seems to work well. How will you seek to minister to single parents this Christmas season?

Red Letter Christians

I have begun reading a book called Red Letter Revolution by Shane Claiborne & Tony Campolo.  I will be writing a review once I complete the book so I don't want to say much at this time.  While I don't agree with them on a few things, their dialogue has forced me to better understand what I believe and why.  Here are a few quotes that I have appreciated: "Over the past few decades our Christianity has become obsessed with what Christians believe rather than how Christians live. We talk a lot about doctrines but little about practice." "We choose the American dream instead of the gospel dream." "it is pretentious to think we can be Christian without the church." "We need to be part of repairing what's broken rather than jumping ship." "For me, I did not choose Jesus because I was scared to death of hell. Nor did I choose Jesus because I wanted mansions in heaven and streets of gold. I chose Jesus because he's wo...

Leave A Legacy

On Sunday, my message was entitled, "Leave A Legacy" based on Psalm 78:1-8.  Here are a few notes from the message: Legacy is defined as "something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.  I started the message by asking what the legacy is of the following people: Bill Gates, Martha Stewart, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan, Hesston MB & you. Community Give ear or listen to the teaching (Hebrew word, Torah) passed down from previous generations.  Asaph, the author of Psalm 78, writes about the importance of passing down teaching to the generations to come.  I challenged us to not just sit and consume more and more and more knowledge without sharing it with others.  The point of Psalm 78.  Brian Haynes writes, "As you learn to Pray-Teach others to Pray.  As you learn Scripture-Teach others Scripture. As you live Authentic Faith-Teach others to live Authentic Faith. As you Obediently Follow-Teach other to walk as Obediently Foll...
