What does it mean to be "in Christ?"

In 2016, I chose the word "gospel" to focus on and read verses related to this word.  I have finished this study and I am starting my words for 2017 "in Christ" a few months early.  Each week, I will post 1 verse that includes the phrase "in Christ". I look forward to growing in understanding of what it means to be "in Christ." 6  For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7  For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8  but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9  Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10  For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11  More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lo...

Bad News, Good News

Below are my notes from message today at Hesston MB titled, "Bad News, Good News".  It was part 2 of a message that I began during advent on Romans 5.  See previous message notes  here Introduction: Has someone ever said this to you? I have bad news & good news.   Which do you want to hear first?   How do you respond?   This is part two of a message I began during Advent with only one point:   Give More Grace   What is grace? ·          Grace = One Way Love, it is for all of life. ·          We are brought into God’s kingdom by grace; we are sanctified by grace; we receive both temporal and spiritual blessings by grace; we are motivated to obedience by grace; we are called to serve and enabled to serve by grace; we receive strength to endure trials by grace; and finally, we are glorified by grace. The entire Christian life is lived under the re...

Give More Message from Hesston MB

Give More-12/14/14-Romans 5:12-17 Introduction: Last week, Chris focus “spend less” and encouraged us to think about our money, energy, and time. The previous week, Jared talked about “worship fully.” My theme is Give More.   I want you to give more this Christmas, but instead of telling you to work hard to change your attitude and give till it hurts, I am going to challenge you with one point (unusual for preachers) to give more grace. You will discover that as we understand grace (head), and let those truths from God’s Word sink into our (hearts), we want to give more (hands). Give More Grace Has grace become too familiar? What is grace? o    Grace = One Way Love title of Tullian’s book, definition of grace by Paul Zahl o    The entire Christian life is lived under the reign of God’s grace. (Jerry Bridges)   Vs. 12-14-Sin (Bad News) o    Vs. 12-entered world through one man, Adam, brought death, all people o  ...

Grace abounds more than sin

20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, (Romans 5:20)
