Sermon Notes: Living in the Kingdom based on 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Introduction : Today’s message is titled Living in the Kingdom.   How would you explain the kingdom?   Recently, we have heard a lot about Chiefs Kingdom.   What does it mean to be part of Chiefs Kingdom? It seems to mean you have an allegiance to and you are a part of something with others. Another image for the kingdom comes from my favorite Children’s Bible “Jesus Storybook Bible” which explains the Kingdom like this, “One day Jesus was telling people about God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom is wherever God is King, Jesus told them. It’s wherever God is in charge. It’s where he fills your heart up with his Forever Happiness and you stop running away from him and you love him.” What is the kingdom? The kingdom of God is the reign, rule and supremacy of Jesus Christ. The heart of God is to impart the reality of the Kingdom of God in the human heart so that it would be seen on earth as it is in heaven. We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Sabaoth Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Sabaoth means host and is often explained as heaven's armies. Who is this King of glory?      The Lord of hosts,      he is the King of glory! We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Uzzi Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Yahweh means I am. Uzzi means strength. The Lord is my strength and my shield;      in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults,      and with my song I give thanks to him. (Psalm 28:7) What it reminds me?  When I am weak, God is strong for me.  It is great to know that when life is hard and I feel help...

It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Yahweh means I am. 14  God said to Moses, “ I am who I am .”  And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel,  ‘ I am  has sent me to you.’”  (Exodus 3:14) What it reminds me?  God has no beginning or an end.  There is no other god but Yahweh.  He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  And He is our God!

Yahweh Qadash Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Qadash means sanctification. 8  Keep my statutes and do them; I am the Lord who sanctifies you. (Leviticus 20:8) What it reminds me?  I need to stop striving and working so hard and instead look to Christ to work in me.  Sanctification is a hotly debated topic these days, but this name of God helps me to see that any good that I do is not me, but God working ...

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Shammah Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Shammah means is there. And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The Lord Is There.” (Ezekiel 48:35) What it reminds me?  No matter whether you are facing good times or bad times, joy or suffering, we have a God who is there.  He walks with us always.  He is not distant, but He is near.  What a comfort to remember God is there beside...

Yahweh Tsidqenuw Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM".
