Sermon Notes-"Advent Equip: Identity in Jesus"

Introduction: Who am I? is one of the most important and deepest questions we each must answer.   Write down 3-5 words that describe who you are. We are going to look at identity from the world’s perspective, prophecies about Jesus’ birth, and then what it means for us. Where- Our identity is influenced by our birth ·          World -I was born in the United States in Iola, KS. I grew up in Yates Center, a small town in Southeast Kansas. It was a rural community. My family was in the grocery business. I was mostly well behaved because my parents said if I ever did anything wrong that they would find out about it.   And that was true.   These things influenced who I was.   Your birthplace is different than mine so you were shaped in different ways (big city, urban, suburban) But we are also similar in that many of us were born in the United States.   If we were born in a different country, our identity would be differen...

Sermon-"Power Struggle"

Introduction: Where do we see “power” in our culture? (money, politics, status (get to the top no matter what), Control) How does that compare to power in the kingdom of God? (humility, dependance, less of me, abiding) Do we believe that power is available to us? If we do, would it change how we live? He Knows My Name

Image
I met Francesca Battistelli at ICRS a few years ago.  She is one of my daughters favorites.  I love her message in this song for me and for you too.  He knows your name!  I'm famous in my Father's eyes.  Be reminded of what God thinks of you.

In Jesus' name

I finished reading through the devotion, Hidden in Christ by James Bryan Smith yesterday.  I loved it!  I would recommend it to all of you.  It is a great reminder of who God is and who we are in Christ.  It is based on Colossians 3:1-17.  It has 30 entries based on words from this passage.  One of my favorite parts of the 30 entries is the affirmation at the end. Here is the affirmation at the end of the book based on praying "in Jesus' name." "I am privileged to act, to pray, to minister and to do all that I do in Jesus' name. I do not act alone; I operate with the power and presence of Jesus in all that I do." May we all love others today in the power and presence of Jesus!
