For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. 13  When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14  He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15  All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Light of the World   We see God throughout Scripture using "light" as a description of Himself.    12  Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) What it reminds me?  Often, where Jesus went, he shined light into the darkness.  As followers of Christ, we can point others to the light.  Jesus as our light can direct our paths and bring peace even in the darkness.

Abba   Abba means father or daddy . 15  For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15) What it reminds me?  God is our Father.  He is good and loves to give good gifts.  We are not slaves, but instead adopted into His family.  He wants to be in relationship with us.  We can trust Him. Abba knows what is best.  

This is another repeat, but it is my last post about some of my favorite songs from Hawk Nelson.  These guys really "get" grace, gospel and what Jesus has DONE for us.  Today, be reminded how God is for you, about God's great love and His forgiveness FOR YOU.

I love theology.  Others do not.  Today's Favorite Book Friday is on theology by Michael Horton.  I appreciate his discussion of the 4 D's.  Horton writes, "One way to see how knowing, experiencing, and living are interconnected is to describe each main doctrine of the Christian faith in terms of four Ds: drama, doctrine, doxology, and discipleship.

Yesterday, I preached from Nehemiah 9:5-15.  I was amazed at how clearly this prayer by Nehemiah described who God is.  However, we have confused and mixed up images of God.  These come from how we were raised, what we were taught, from our culture and a multitude of other places.  Reading Nehemiah's prayer, I was challenged to evaluate how I view God.  Do I (and the answer is yes) have views of God that are not sound biblically? I am preparing to preach on May 29th on Nehemiah 9.  In this prayer, Nehemiah reminds us of who God is.  This reminded me that as humans we have many views of who God is.  Some of these views are shaped by what we were taught as children, others shaped by life and circumstances, and some by our favorite preacher, speaker, author. A.W. Tozier writes, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. And the second is what we think God thinks of us.” I plan to share various views of God in my introduction on May 29th.  I am asking my readers to share views of God they had or have heard described.  For example, the Genie God is the God you just ask for things and He gives them to you.  Please share in the comments views of God you have heard.  Thanks!

El Moshaah El means God &  Moshaah means saves. He is the God who saves! Our God is a God of salvation,      and to God , the Lord, belong deliverances from death. This is a new weekly post connecting who God is with who we are because of what He has DONE.  These are true because it is about God and His relationship toward us not anything we must DO. On my trip to Nashville to visit Byron Yawn, he recommend the book below so I purchased it.  As he explained, there are many writing about the practice of justification, but this book focuses on the root which is theology of justification.

No, I am not switching denominations. However, since Luther was so instrumental in Protestant Reformation, I wanted to read more about him and his theology. Here is today's new book:
