God is...

Image
Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

You Are Blameless

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

Promises of God from 1 Chronicles

Listen to the many ways God has proved faithful and is worthy of praise as you read these promises from 1 Chronicles: “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!   Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’   And God granted his request” (4:10). “Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.   Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.   Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced” (16:10-12). “For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.   For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.   Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place” (16:25-27). “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (16:34). “I declare to you that the Lord will build a house f...

Promises of God from 2 Kings

Here are selected promises of God from 2 Kings which are compiled by Kenneth Boa: There is no God in all the world except in Israel (5:15).   Those who are with us are more than those who are with them (6:16).     “For the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah .   He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever” (8:19).   “But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.   To this day he has been unwilling to destroy them or banish them from his presence” (13:23).   “Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.   Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies” (17:39).   “Have you not heard?   Long ago I ordained it.   In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass” (19:25)....

Never Once

I am loving this song by Matt Redman.  What a great reminder of who God is and who we are.  Never once were you alone. God is faithful!

Promises of God from book of Genesis

As I mentioned yesterday, we sing and are encouraged and share the promises of God.  But how many do we actually know?  Today, I am beginning to share the promises of God from Scripture.  Today, we look at the beginning of the book of Genesis. God made man in his image, in his likeness, and gave him dominion over the earth and all its creatures (1:26-28). God blessed the descendants of Abraham, and all peoples on earth have been blessed through them (12:2-3; 18:18).

Do you know the promises of God?

We sing about them.  We are encouraged by them.  But do we know them?  What are the promises of God?  Today's Bible verse reminds us that all the promises are yes in Christ.  I will be sharing various promises of God over the next few months.  Check back often. 18  As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. 19  For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. 20  For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21  And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22  and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. (2 Corinthians 1:18-22)

Here is another great song that we sang at Exponential in Orlando.  Listen to the promises throughout the song.  God is worthy of our praise!

When You Are At The Bottom

Image
I am continuing to read Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick.  He has a great chapter when you are at your lowest.  Here are some quotes from Chapter 6, "At the Bottom" But even in our crisis moments and nightmare seasons, God speaks. And our ability to hear His voice above all others can be the difference between the life and death of our faith. At the bottom of the deepest, darkest what-if imaginable is a faithful God.  But at the bottom, you see that the same Rock that holds us your life in clear skies is supporting your future when everything around you shakes and rocks and reels. The Enemy does his best work in the darkness of our ignorance and speculation.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Today, we look at a favorite hymn through the years.  Be reminded that God is faithful!

Thank You!

Today, I am reminded of God's faithfulness, provision, and love. We leave today for vacation in Branson and I am looking forward to time away with family.  Before we left, I needed to run some errands which included purchasing a family pool pass to get the discount (you know I am always looking for a sale).  All of these things--Branson vacation and pool pass were reminders.  Why? Because of the generosity of a family from our church, we can stay at a home in Branson without cost. Because of the generosity of a family from our church, we have season passes to Silver Dollar City for free. Because of the generosity of an anonymous donor, our pool pass was purchased for us. I am thankful for each of these individuals/families for their generosity.  I thank God for them and their love for me and my family.  I am grateful to serve God with these families at Hesston MB. I have prayed blessing over them as they have understood, "it is more blessed ...

Trust Fund Baby

Some more thoughts from Greater by Steven Furtick: Scriptures to read: 2 Peter 1:4, 2 Corinthians 1:20, Romans 8:28 "You have your own trust fund set up too. When you pray for something and that particular thing doesn't happen, who's to say God isn't taking your faith and the prayers you prayed about that situation and posting them to another account in your life that you're going to see at a future time?" "He's a reliable manager of anything that is entrusted to Him. Including our very lives." "Everyone experiences what seem to be unanswered prayers. But in God's economy, no one's faith is ever wasted." "That's how you send your situation upstairs for further review--by drawing near to God and focusing on His faithfulness." "Most of us give up too soon on the greater life God has for us. Don't lost hope. With God, nothing in your life is ever beyond resuscitation." "God is too fai...

Today we sold and closed on our home in Iola.  We moved to Hesston four years ago and have been trying to sell that house since then.  I have posted often about this journey, but I thought I would share some numbers this time. 49 months on the market 3 renters 41 months of rent to cover mortgage payments Number of people who gave money anonymously or paid rent for us = 4 Number of times our bills went unpaid = 0 Numbers of prayers that were prayed on our behalf = Thousands Number of encouraging emails, cards, or words = Hundreds Thank you God that your are Faithful & Jehovah Jireh (God who provides)!

Happy Birthday (yesterday) Mackenzie

I didn't have time to write a post yesterday in honor of my beautiful daughter, Mackenzie. So, I am writing it a day late. While I am wishing "Happy Birthday" I will also say it to my college roommate, Ed, whose birthday is today. Happy Birthday to you all! As I reflect on Mackenzie's birthday, I am reminded of God's faithfulness. I wrote a post last year describing Mackenzie's first days out of the womb. She was born at 35 weeks and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. As we looked at pictures last night, it is a reminder of the great care she received, but more importantly of God bringing her through a difficult time. Bethany and I are continually amazed at how God gave us peace despite Mackenzie's health situation. I am so excited to see how God uses Mackenzie in the future. She is a true servant. She loves to help others and always considers others. She will go along with things to avoid conflict in the home. She is a caring, sensitive young lady....

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Are you stressed about finances or work? Are relationships with family or friends strained? Do you need a job? Are you sick? Are you worried about your kids' and their choices or decisions? Do you have a house in Iola that needs to be sold? Oh-that's just me. If you are facing any of these questions or assorted others, let this hymn be an encouragement today. I know these words were a good reminder for me this morning. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions , they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. Refrain Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Refrain Pardon for ...
