Review : We are continuing a 5 week study on the 5 Solas. Sola is Latin for alone, the solas were considered the foundational principles of Protestantism which was begun by Martin Luther in 1517 (Sola! Pg 3) Scripture Alone -One Story, God-Breathed, Useful Grace Alone from God for us, a gift available to all people for all of life and motivation. Christ Alone- what Christ did (life, death, resurrection, appeared to many ascension), what we do- The crowd words from John 6:28-29 “Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” What is faith? This Sunday, I continue a 5 week series on the solas of the Reformation.  What is a sola?  It is the Latin word for alone.  This week, we will focus on Faith alone.  Here are a few things to ponder prior to Sunday: Read the Bible passage : Romans 3:21-26 Questions to think about: How would you define faith? Jared C Wilson is one of my favorite authors right now.  He was one of the speakers at Here We Still Stand on Friday morning.  Below are his thoughts: Romans 3:19-26--"Putting the Law In It's Place" The gospel as good news does not exist as an idea or theory.  You have to take it personally. The Law's function is good in design . We cannot be flippant about the law.  The Law is not bad, but it cannot do what the gospel does. It reveals the holiness of God. It reveals we are fallen. In 2016, I chose the word "gospel" to focus on and read verses related to this word.  I have finished this study and I am starting my words for 2017 "in Christ" a few months early.  Each week, I will post 1 verse that includes the phrase "in Christ". We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. This is a new feature on the blog on the names of God.  Why?  Because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Friend of Sinners   Jesus was accused of being a friend of sinners.  It was intended as an insult.    The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ (Luke 7:34) What it reminds me?  Jesus came to seek and save the lost.  This includes you and me.  Jesus being a friend of sinners is not just good news for the unsaved but also for the saved.  I'm thankful Jesus who was fully God and fully man has chosen to be in relationship w...
