Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you,      and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice;      blessed are all those who wait for him. (Isaiah 30:18)

Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

Sermon Notes: But ...... based on Nehemiah 9:16-32

Introduction: My introduction last week focused on various views of God that people in the church and in our culture have.   We looked at who God is based on Nehemiah’s prayer.   God creates, God keeps his promises, God rescues, God provides.   Opening : How do you view yourself? How do you view humans? How do you view characters in the Bible? Abraham-lied, Noah-got drunk, David-committed adultery, killed someone, Peter-denied Jesus, Paul-killed Christians ·          As I mentioned last week, Nehemiah 9 is the longest recorded prayer in the Bible. The emphasis throughout the prayer is on what God has done. [1] ·          Pattern in this prayer but they (Israelites)….but you (God) They …but God was forgiving, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger abounding in love (vs. 16-17) ·          Vs. 16-arrogant & stiff necked & did...

Promises of God from 2 Kings

Here are selected promises of God from 2 Kings which are compiled by Kenneth Boa: There is no God in all the world except in Israel (5:15).   Those who are with us are more than those who are with them (6:16).     “For the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah .   He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever” (8:19).   “But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.   To this day he has been unwilling to destroy them or banish them from his presence” (13:23).   “Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.   Rather, worship the Lord your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies” (17:39).   “Have you not heard?   Long ago I ordained it.   In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass” (19:25)....
