Today we learned more about religion and spirituality from Guatemalan history. We visited another school and heard from its principal who also pastors church that meets in community. Finally we visited a sinkhole where we prayed and worshipped together. Here are some pictures:

Today at Hesston MB, we commissioned our entire congregation as "disciples making disciples" in their homes, workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods. Part of that commissioning included a responsive reading. I have shared it below. Leader: At Hesston MB, we seek to be disciples making disciples. This is accomplished as we are Centered on Scripture, Holy Spirit Empowered, Reaching   the World, Intimate Worshipers, Serving Others, in Transparent Relationships. Response: This purpose and goals live out Matthew 22:37 & 39, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” Leader: Today, we commission the HMBC family to be disciplemakers in their home, workplace, school, or neighborhood. Today, I am participating in Watch D.O.G.S at Molly's school.  It is a great way to serve at your child's school and provide additional security as well. I also wanted to inform my readers that I began a new ministry opportunity.  I have joined the 1 Corinthians 13 Parenting Team.  I will be sharing more about this in the days ahead. But today, I wanted to post a picture from their Facebook page.

Hesston Elementary has started a new program at the school called Watch D.O.G.S.  It stands for Dads of Great Students.  The purpose is to get more men involved at the schools as well as safety. Today was my first day.  It was a great experience.  I walked around the halls and perimeter of the building several times throughout the day as well as helped in classrooms.  My highlight was eating lunch with my daughter, playing with the kids at recess, and working with groups of students. I highly recommend and encourage each father figure in the Hesston area to sign up to be involved with Watch D.O.G.S!  It is a great program for many reasons and it a blessing to receive smiles from the students throughout the day. Despite the clouds, we had a good time at our church family pool party tonight. Thanks to all who came!

Tonight, marks the beginning of our Wednesday night ministries at Hesston MB Church.  I look forward to the parent's meeting for Hide N Seek (4 year olds through 4th grade) & fuzion (5th/6th grade) tonight.  I anticipate God doing some amazing things through these ministries this school year.  If you have a child in this age group, I invite you to Hesston MB Church (610 W. Randall) at 6:45 p.m. for a meal & registration night for Hide N Seek and to Hesston Middle School for a meeting to discuss fuzion. As my oldest kids get ready to return to school tomorrow, I am wondering about all they will learn this year at school. I also ponder how they will learn in Sunday School, Hide N Seek, and yes, at home. It is so amazing how kids are like sponges when it comes to learning. So, what about me? As my kids are being shaped in school, church, and home, what is my plan for learning this year? I remember in seminary hearing that even after graduation, we must seek to be lifelong learners. I don't know who coined the term, but it has stuck with me. We will never achieve all there is to know. Therefore, I need to have a plan or I will do nothing. I have one conference I plan to attend in September called the D6 Conference that will be a part of this process. I am continuing to read several books on marriage and parenting. I plan to be a part of a Sunday School class, lead a small group, and spend lots of time in prayer and Bible reading. I hope to get at least two day retreats to S...
