Favorite Book Friday

My Favorite Book Friday today is The Jesus Storybook Bible . At first glance, you might think this is only for kids.  However, in my opinion, this Bible is for all ages.  I love the focus on who God is and how "every story whispers His name." We use this curriculum during our Wednesday night ministries.  For families looking for a good children's Bible, this is the best one available.  Not only are the stories great, but the illustrations are great too.  Check it out!

One of my favorite children's book is the Jesus Storybook Bible . It is great because of amazing illustrations and creative ways to teach kids about God. One of the best parts is every story points to Jesus as the cover says, " Every story whispers his name."

Aha moment from a children's book

After attending the Liberate Conference this year, I purchased the book Thoughts that Make Your Heart Sing by Sally Lloyd-Jones.  As I have posted before, I highly recommend The Jesus Storybook Bible to all parents.  However, I had not read any of this other book. About a week ago, Molly (my 6 year old) and I were reading one of the stories.  It is the story about faith as small as a mustard seed.  Picture from the book is below.  What amazed me was how I had focused so often on the size of my faith (mustard seed) rather than who our faith is in.  All of a sudden a light bulb came on for me.  It is about faith in Jesus and who He is and His power, not how much faith I can work up or muster.  The Holy Spirit can use many different tools including a children's book to help us go deeper.

3 Ideas for Families during Lent

OK-can I just say that God is awesome and answers prayer?  Last week, I wrote a post about not having any good ideas for families to do during Lent.  But then on Thursday, I was reminded of a couple of ideas as well as a new idea from Pastor Brad that he posted on Hesston MB facebook page. So, here are three simple ideas to use with your kids: Resurrection Eggs -Family Life has a great resource for kids called Resurrection Eggs that tell the story of Easter.  You could use these during Lent by hiding them and then telling the story for each egg.  It comes with a booklet for ideas of what to say.  You can paraphrase or read it word for word.  They are available at local Christian bookstores and you can learn more here Jesus Storybook Bible- I am planning to read through the life of Jesus with my kids from this Bible during Lent.  It is a great Bible that has Jesus as the focus of every story of the Bible.  Check it out here .
