Promotion Sunday

Image
Promotion Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year because it signals the beginning of our year in Go Deeper Hour.  On this day, we introduce new teachers for all of our classes for kids, youth and adults.  We give Hesston MB bags filled with goodies to our 1st graders because they promote out of Children's Church and we give Bibles to our 3rd graders. Adults, which class are you attending this year?  There is something for everyone.  Try one and if it is not what you are looking for, try another one.  I believe we have classes with a variety of topics and variety of teaching styles.  If you have questions about the classes, please let me know. I look forward to celebrating Promotion Sunday with you today!

Gospel Playlist

Image
This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." I will be sharing songs from my "Gospel Playlist" on my phone. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: Death Was Arrested by North Point InsideOut featuring Seth Condrey

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday.  If you are in Yates Center, stop by and wish her a "Happy Birthday." I'm thankful for the support and love you show to me and the rest of our family.  I hope you have a great day!

You are Redeemed

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” (Galatians 3:13)

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. The Law's favorite word is ''more.'' •more obedience •more striving •more doing •more, more, more. The Gospel’s favorite word is ‘’finished.’’ @birdchadlouis If you feel like you are drowning in a sea of "You didn't" and "You never" and "You ought to", don't forget the cry of the crucified Christ, "It is finished." @jaredcwilson When we think about growing in Christ, or when we think about sharing our faith, we always wonder how to do it. The answer is to look to Christ in faith. (Jack Miller) Unity is more about the kind of people that we are than a list of things we agree on. (Brent Warkentin) @usmbchurches If we talk about cures or solutions or steps for a problem or sin but leave o...

Go Deeper Hour Books

Image
I love to teach!  One of the things I missed most during the last 3 months while I was preaching was teaching an adult class during Go Deeper Hour (Sunday School).  I believe every person needs an opportunity to not just listen to a preacher or teacher, but to also process what they are learning in their head, heart, and hands.  This is why I am a firm believer in Sunday School and small groups.  Both of these provide people the opportunity to ask questions as well as process what they are hearing and thinking. SO, let me encourage every person--child, youth and adult to join a Go Deeper Hour Class if you attend Hesston MB.  But also want to encourage you no matter where you go to church, find a Sunday School class or Small group to join and participate in.  If you don't like the one you attend, try another class.  Don't just give up!   It is important for you. For the next year, the class I lead will be going through 2 books together as well ...

Word for 2018-abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for.  Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 8  To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. (1 Corinthians 7:8)   20  Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called. (1 Corinthians 7:20)
