God is...

Image
Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

Gospel Playlist

This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: Jesus Loves Me by A Cappella Hymns

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. So the law reveals the righteousness that God is, by which we are judged (and therefore condemned); the gospel reveals the righteousness that God freely gives to sinners through faith in Jesus Christ. @MichaelHorton_ Informed minds, inflamed hearts, engaged hands... all 3 are products of faithful preaching of the gospel. Don’t settle for your favorite of the 3 @ScottyWardSmith   The Devil is the slanderer of God's children. Christians should not take his side. @mike_reeves Jesus appeared to Saul and changed him inside and out. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Names of God: King of Kings

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. King of Kings King of Kings reminds us who is in control.  Jesus will come again. 14  They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” (Revelation 17:14) What it reminds me?  Jesus wins.  No matter what happens in this world including the election, Jesus is still on the throne.  There is no politician who will save us or our country.  We worship a risen Savior who is the ultimate King. I am thankful to praise the Lord of lords and King of Kings!

Word for 2019: Holy Spirit

For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. The Lord said to Moses, 2  “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3  and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, (Exodus 31:2-3) 2  And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him, (Numbers 24:2)

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 12  And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 13  And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, 14  and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15  And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” 16  And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 17  And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18  And as they were reclining at table and eat

New Book Friday

Each year, my Christmas list includes lots of books.  So, at the start of each year, I like to share the new books that I received.  Here is one of my new books for 2019:

You Are One

"   “ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. Love is not the fruit of our labors, but the fruit of the Spirit. Love is not about trying harder, but allowing God‘s love to flow to us & through us to others. @simplestapleton So the law reveals the righteousness that God is, by which we are judged (and therefore condemned); the gospel reveals the righteousness that God freely gives to sinners through faith in Jesus Christ. @MichaelHorton_ Just love God and people is not the gospel; it is precisely that holy demand of the law that we have grievously failed to keep.… Our love toward God and neighbor is the essence of the law; God’s love toward us in Jesus Christ is the essence of the gospel. @MichaelHorton_ Many people use the Bible merely as a manual of doctrine or a guidebook for living. But our

Sermon Notes-Head, Heart and Hands

Introduction: On the banner behind me, we have an image of how we at Hesston MB “Make disciples who make disciples” It includes head, heart and hands.   Matthew 4:19-DiscipleShift by Jim Putman & Bobby Harrington ·          “Follow Me”- Head -is following Christ (KNOW) ·          “And I Will Make You”- Heart -is being changed by Christ (BE) ·          “Fishers of Men”- Hands -is committed to the mission of Christ (DO) This is not pick one of the three.   It is all three.   All are important. However, based on personalities and giftedness, we normally are stronger in one more than the other. I would like you take a minute this morning to pray and ask God, which of these am I strongest in?   Then on your notes page, write down in order your strongest, middle, weakest one. Here is my theory: we are not strong in all three to remind us that we need each other as the body of Christ. We will see head, heart, and hands as we look at our verses for this mor
