For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. 13  Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. Introduction: My introduction last week focused on various views of God that people in the church and in our culture have.   We looked at who God is based on Nehemiah’s prayer.   God creates, God keeps his promises, God rescues, God provides.   Opening : How do you view yourself? How do you view humans? How do you view characters in the Bible? Yesterday, I preached from Nehemiah 9:5-15.  I was amazed at how clearly this prayer by Nehemiah described who God is.  However, we have confused and mixed up images of God.  These come from how we were raised, what we were taught, from our culture and a multitude of other places.  Reading Nehemiah's prayer, I was challenged to evaluate how I view God.  Do I (and the answer is yes) have views of God that are not sound biblically?
