Christmas has come and gone. So, every year after Christmas I share new books that I received as gifts. I love to read and appreciate the gift of books. So, here is today's New Book Friday:

Breakout Session-Two Kingdoms
The first breakout session on Friday night was by Dr. Uwe Siemon-Netto. He provided an extensive handout (see below), but I will include a few thoughts here. What was my place as a Christian and journalist in this messed up world? What is the role of Christ in our culture? 5 Views of Christ and Culture by H. Richard Niebuhr (handout)-Christ against culture, Christ the transformer of culture, Christ and Culture in paradox, Christ above culture, and Christ of culture. The only one that makes sense to me is Christ and Culture in Paradox. Luther said that the Devil was always trying to get people to combine the two kingdoms.
Friday Discipleship
If you are regular reader of the blog, on Fridays I have shared new books, favorite books, and most recently kid books. Now, I am going to share discipleship resources that I would recommend each Friday. We used this resource this past year in our Go Deeper Hour with adults. This book prompted great discussions on a variety of topics. Sauls has a free study guide available that goes along with the book. Many in my class commented how it challenged them to think more deeply about difficult topics facing the church and culture.
Day 3 in Guatemala
Today we learned more about religion and spirituality from Guatemalan history. We visited another school and heard from its principal who also pastors church that meets in community. Finally we visited a sinkhole where we prayed and worshipped together. Here are some pictures:
