Favorite Quotes from #d62012

I again thoroughly enjoyed my time at the D6 Conference in Dallas.  There were many great speakers and workshops.  For detailed notes from these speakers, check out the most recent posts of this blog. I hope to share a few take-aways in the next few days as well as some themes that emerged for me. But for today, here are some of my favorite quotes: "Discipleship is spending time with people and letting your Christ-likeness rub off."                (Jim Wideman)  "The Gospel is not you do. It's Jesus did." (Ed Stetzer) "Constant contact with our Creator is essential to fulfill our calling." (Pete Wilson) "Could you be an expert at God's service and a novice at being God's friend?"               (Richard Ross)   "You were signed by God." (Mike Glen) "Students are over-exposed to information far earlier than they are ready. Students are under-exposed to real life experienc...

#D62012 is about a month away!

It is almost time for D6 2012.  This is always a highlight of my year as I believe this to be one of the best conferences on family ministry.  This will be my fourth year attending.  I thought I would highlight some previous D6 Conference blog posts today. 2009- Darren Whitehead & Reflections from 2009 2010- Doug Fields & 2010 Video 2011- 2011 Favorite Quotes & 2011 Highlights & David Platt I have much more content on my blog about the D6 Conference, but this will whet your appetite. If you are a senior pastor, family pastor, children's pastor, student pastor, young adult pastor, parent, Sunday School teacher, youth volunteer, you should attend this great conference.  Go to their website to register today! But if you are unable to attend, you can view some of the sessions live here . Check back in the weeks ahead for more information about the speaker's schedule and how you can interact with me live during the conference.

My Response to Student Ministry Panel at D6

One of the sessions at D6 this year was a Student Ministry Panel from student ministers from a variety of churches.  You can view some of the dialog here .  While I agreed with much of the content, there was something missing.  As a former youth pastor myself, I struggled with how to engage parents in ministry with students.  Several volunteered to help out with activities, but I was not sure how involved they were in passing on faith at home.  I tried seminars such Understanding Your Teenager and other parenting classes, but the only ones that showed up were parents that seemed to being doing well at home.  I knew there must be a better way. I hoped that this panel would give me new ideas to share, but I heard a lot of the same "excuses" youth pastors have been using for years.  I realize that teenagers are separating from their parents, but does that mean the parent does not have influence any longer.  I know our teenagers need other voices ...

What is D6 Conference?

Image
For the last several years everyone has been talkin’ family ministry, right? But the conversation is really bigger than just family ministry. It’s bigger than any trend we’ve seen come through the church or an exhibit hall at some conference. The bigger conversation is really about biblical discipleship. And biblical discipleship is at the heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We no longer have to sell the crisis the church is facing in NextGen discipleship. Instead, our challenge is to provide NEXT steps and NEXT strategies: practical, time-proven plans to implement change within the church and in the home. The primary challenge we face is implementing the strategy and practical steps to breakthrough to the NEXT level in fulfilling the mission of the church. D6 2011 is fully dedicated to equipping leaders, ministers, volunt...
