Sermon Notes-"Stand Strong" from Ephesians 6:10-12

Introduction: As I was thinking about what it means to stand strong, I was reminded of a movie I saw recently which most people saw months ago.   It was Avengers: End Game.   The scene that came to mind was the final battle scene where the Avengers with their specific gifts and powers come together and stand strong against Thanos. I could not find the exact image online, but the following picture illustrates my point.   Just like the Avengers needed everyone to come together to win the battle, our passage from Ephesians is a reminder that the battle we are going to look at today is very real and is done not only individually but together as the church body.   Let’s look at our verses for this morning. Strong vs. 10 ·          In the Lord o    Greek Word means to be or become rendered (more) capable or able for some task; receive strength; be strengthen for service or action §   You do not make ...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 6  Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. 7  Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8  This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ...

Names of God: Yahweh Tsuri

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. This is a new feature on the blog on the names of God.  Why?  Because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Tsuri Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Tsuri means rock. To you, O Lord , I call; my rock, (Psalm 28:1) What it reminds me?  Our God is solid as a rock.  Rocks are used as foundations so we rest in God as our foundation.  Rocks are strong so we can trust God is strong for us. Rocks are firm so when life is out of control, we can trust God to be a firm foundation for us.

Below is a song that I love to sing with our kids during Children's Church.  It is a reminder of the power of God.
