Palm Sunday and Easter at Hesston MB

Image
I love this time of year.  It is when we remember Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.  We in the church celebrate his entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey on Palm Sunday (this year, April 14) and Easter (day Christ raised from the dead) the following Sunday. Our tradition at Hesston MB for our kids is to have a live donkey during Children's Church and to process into the worship service with palm branches on Palm Sunday. On Easter, we have an Easter Egg hunt for the kids during Children's Church and then share what Easter is all about. If you live in the Hesston area, join us on April 14 and April 21 at 10:10 a.m. for these special activities for children.

Palm Sunday

Image
I love Palm Sunday!  There is so much excitement at Hesston MB with kids processing into worship waving palm branches and of course our special guests for the kids, donkeys.  I will try and post a few pictures from today later this afternoon.  But for now, I want to share the words of Scripture about Palm Sunday: 11  Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2  and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3  If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4  And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5  And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6  And they told them w...

Today, I am sharing one of the songs our kids love to sing in Children's Church.  We sang it during Palm Sunday worship last year.  Enjoy!

Palm Sunday Tomorrow

Image
Tomorrow at Hesston MB, we have special activities for kids from 2 years old through 4th grade during our worship service.  Our service begins at 10:10 a.m.  Special activities occur after singing.  Here is what is planned for this week: Children kindergarten and younger will process into the worship service with palm branches.  If you want your child to participate, please drop them off in kid's classrooms by 10 a.m. on Sunday.  Special Activities-Every Palm Sunday, we have special activities for kids including games, video, music, coloring, and a live donkey.  On these days, fuzion students (5th/6th graders) serve as buddies for the younger children.  Below are a few pictures from previous years.  I hope you will join us tomorrow!

Wonderful Exchange

Image
When I preached last week, I closed the sermon by talking about what Martin Luther called "The Wonderful Exchange." As you go into Easter Week, think about the wonderful exchange that occurred on our behalf by Christ's life, death, and resurrection.  Below is a picture of the quote I shared.

Here are a few pictures I took today during Palm Sunday activities. I was a little busy so I didn't take many. More will be posted on Hesston MB Facebook page soon.

Palm Sunday

Today is Palm Sunday.  It is the day when we remember Jesus coming into Jerusalem riding on a donkey.  Our tradition at Hesston MB is to have a live donkey as we tell the story to the kids during Children's Church.  Check back later today for pictures from today!

I love this time of year.  It is when we remember Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.  We in the church celebrate his entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey on Palm Sunday (this year, March 29) and Easter (day Christ raised from the dead) the following Sunday. Our tradition at Hesston MB for our kids is to bring in a live donkey during Children's Church and to process into the worship service with palm branches on Palm Sunday. On Easter, we have an Easter Egg hunt for the kids during Children's Church and then share what Easter is all about.  Below are a few pictures. If you live in the Hesston area, join us on March 29 & April 5th at 10:10 a.m. for these special activities for children.

Hosanna

Image
Palm Sunday is just around the corner.  As I sing this song, I am reminded of the people shouting "Hosanna" as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.  Hosanna means save us.  Be reminded of our great Savior as you listen to this song today.

Resources for Kids for Easter Week

So, I am probably late with this post.  Easter Sunday has come and gone.  However, there are some great resources that I recommend for Holy Week.  Most of these are available at your local Christian bookstore and might even be on sale now.  In no particular order, I recommend the following books, videos, or items: Lily's Easter Party by Crystal Bowman (Ages 4-7)-This new book tells the story of the Resurrection Eggs. Resurrection Eggs -12 eggs that tell the story from Palm Sunday through Easter.  I use every year to tell the true meaning of Easter to the kids in my church after an Easter egg hunt. God Rocks: Rez the Rock That Rolled Away -I have used this video the last two years.  It tells the story for children through music in a fun, creative, and age appropriate way. Little Colt's Palm Sunday by Michelle Adams-Great story to use on Palm Sunday.  I usually incorporate a live donkey that is used with this story. The Story of Jesus for Child...

Hosanna! Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord

It's Palm Sunday! I don't know about you, but I get really excited as Easter Sunday approaches. But for me, I get real excited about Palm Sunday at our church. Maybe even more than the kids. Because for us that means live donkeys and little kids processing into the worship service waving palm branches. It is a lot of work and headaches at times, but it is well worth it. I am exhausted right now, but it is so fun see the children eyes light up as they see the donkey. It is great helping them to act out what the Bible says happened on Palm Sunday. It is fun playing games and reading books and singing songs that all capture the meaning behind this Sunday. Again, it takes a lot of help, but the payoff is seeing the kids "get it." Check out the Hesston MB page or my facebook page for pictures later. In closing, I highly recommend Heidrick's Promotions out of Nickerson . They have provided our donkeys for the last 3 years. They are great to work with. John...

Easter Week Family Devotions

This week during our family devotions, we have been focusing on Jesus' last week on Earth. I have been reading from the gospels and talking about details that the kids might not understand completely. On Monday, I read up to the Last Supper. Last night, I began with Jesus' prayer in the garden and went through his death and burial. This weekend, I will read about his resurrection from the dead. We have been singing songs related to Palm Sunday and Easter. Something different we did this year was to go to the site, www.bricktestament.com. This is a wonderful site for those who have kids who love legos . It uses legos to tell Bible stories. So, we used this idea last night and the kids made lego scenes from the passion week as I read God's Word. It was fun seeing their creativity! Here are few other ideas for this week: Watch a cartoon or video about passion week such as God Rocks: Rez The Rock That Rolled or many others that tell the story well. Hide "Resurr...
