You Are Blameless

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

What is the gospel?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have chosen the word, gospel, to think about and meditate on in 2016.  Gospel in the Greek literally means, "good news." My best definition of gospel is the "life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ." I hope to have a deeper understanding of the word and definition at the end of 2016. Check out previous posts on this topic.   8  So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. 9  For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.                 (1 Thessalonians 2:8-9)   2  and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's coworker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your fait...

You know how we lived among you for your sake.      (1 Thessalonians 1:5)   2  We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition. 3  For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. 4  On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted w...

Promises of God from 1 Thessalonians

Here are selected promises of God from 1 Thessalonians compiled by Kenneth Boa: As brothers in Christ, we are loved by God who has chosen us (1:4). We are waiting for God’s Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath (1:10). Our hope, our joy, and the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes are the people whom we have loved and served in his name (2:19-20). The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.   After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.   And so we will be with the Lord forever (4:16-17). God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.   He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together...

Condemnation or Conviction?

What is the difference between these two words?  Does it matter?  I have had several conversations over the last few months about how important it is to distinguish between these two words. Here is a brief explanation of the two words based on my opinion: Condemnation is from Satan. Conviction is from the Holy Spirit. 8  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,  (Romans 8:1) 13  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.   (John 16:13) 4  For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5  because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.  (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5) How to distinguish the two? Does it pr...
