Introduction: Today we are starting a new series on the book of Acts.   So, as we begin, I have one question for you to think and discuss with the person beside you.   This question and how you answer it will inform how you read the book of Acts.   Do you see Acts as a book about the past or present? Is it possible that what God did in the book of Acts He wants to be happening in the church today?   It might look different, but what does a church look like that loves God and loves others empowered by the Holy Spirit today? I also want to draw your attention to the title of the book.   In my Bible (ESV), it says “The Acts of the Apostles”.   I want to share a quote from the book that I lead an adult class on several years ago, Jesus, Continued by J.D. Greear.   Greear writes, “New Testament scholars have pointed out that when later Christians gave a name to the book of Acts, they probably chose the wrong title. Rather than “The Acts of the Apostles,”...

We have victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.  This song reminds us of the victory that is ours now and in the future. Enjoy this great hymn of the faith.

3 P's about our relationships: Perspective, Past, Purpose Perspective-how you read the Bible matters.  Picture-Life, Loss, Love, Life (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration) I had put all my trust in my righteousness. How do you repent of being good? Is this a problem for me to solve?  I need someone constantly reminding me that "it is finished." It's not about how well we do. We need a gospel lens. How do we view our past? Where does evil want to trip you up? Betrayal, powerlessness, abandonment We want to be affirmed and validated.  All of us will seek approval from someone. Who will it be? Redemption keeps affecting us. Satan meant it for evil; God will redeem it for good. If you don't know what this means for your life, stop what you are doing. We need to allow time and space for the Holy Spirit to move in our relationships rather than trying to "fix" things.

Yesterday, I preached on the topic of "Give More" from Romans 5:12-21.  As I studied and prepared, this hymn kept coming to mind.  Enjoy and be reminded that no matter what you face today, what your past includes, or sin you struggle with, God's grace is greater!
