The Heart of the Church

After the MB Pastor's Get Together concluded, we then began the Southern District Convention. Our speaker for the convention was Steve Macchia from Leadership Transformations. Here is his website: http://leadershiptransformations.org His first message was titled, "The Heart of the Church." He started by asking the following question: What is God's desire for our church? He then looked at Hebrews 11 and asked what was similar in those listed in the hall of faith. His answer: people who were willing to listen to God and obey. MB Pastor's Get Together

Well, today is the last day of the Pastor's Get Together for MB pastors of the Southern District. It has been a couple of good days of learning and relaxing and fun. Unfortunately, our speaker had a flight cancelled so plans had to be changed. However, Ed Boschman did a great job sharing from God's Word with us with little to no preparation. He shared from 1 Corinthians 3 & 1 Peter 5. Our speaker has arrived now and will share this morning. We are staying at NCED (National Center for Employee Development) in Norman, OK. It is hot! But the hotel is nice and cool. I have been several times to the salt water pool. It has these floatie things that are so relaxing. That has been a treat! NCED also has great food and a lot of it. You do not go away hungry. Last night, we played some games in the gym. It was fun, but I learned that casual shoes are not good for carrying a quarter. It has been nice to be away again with Bethany without kids. Today, we pick the kid...

Good Coffee & Good Conversation

I met a friend for coffee today at Lincoln Perk. We talked for about two hours about the journeys we are both on spiritually. It was amazing to see how God had us on similar journeys. This conversation was a reminder to me how nothing is by accident. It was also a reminder about how God's Word is truth and no matter what the world says, we must still be faithful and follow the truths of Scripture. We focused a lot on our desire for fathers to lead their homes spiritually. We shared what we had each done and how healthy churches and communities start in the home. It was fun to hear what each of us had read recently. But we were both quick to recognize that none of this is possible without the grace of God. We are sinners saved by grace. The gospel is central to all that we do. It must start there. It was also an encouragement for me as I prepare to present a workshop at the Southern District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches next week about being a faith at home ch...
