Word for 2019: Holy Spirit

For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. But as for me, I am filled with power,      with the Spirit of the Lord ,      and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression      and to Israel his sin. (Micah 3:8)

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. You keep him in perfect peace      whose mind is stayed on you,      because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever,      for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (Isaiah 26:3-4)

Who is your favorite author?  There are many great authors out there.  I will be sharing over the next several months authors who have helped me grow in grace and the gospel.  I will try and include images of some of my favorite books by them. These will be shared in alphabetical order. Author: Matt Chandler

You Are Chosen

1  “ For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” (Ephesians 1:4)

God is...

Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

Some of you may know that I serve part-time as social media coordinator for USMB conference.  One of the things I have done on their social media is share Bible verses with images that tie in with the words.  I decided to start sharing them weekly here on the blog. I hope you grow in your understanding of who God is from these verses.

Gospel Playlist

This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: O God, Our Help in Ages Past by Grace Community Church

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. Those desperately clinging to Christ for His grace have not the time or energy to compare themselves to others. For they feel as if they are the worst of all sinners and have no righteousness to boast of. The law reminds us of God’s demands and the gospel of God’s grace! @jonmoffitt We come not to the Father’s house to gain acceptance, but to rejoice and be refreshed in our eternally declared acceptance in Christ Jesus. Come, see what the Lord has done. Come, eat and drink to have your faith strengthened. Come, rest in His presence. Love Sundays!!! @jonmoffitt The Holy Spirit changes the way we think and live so we can love one another as God has loved us. #thegospelprojectkids May our focus be our “awe of You” and not what we “ought to do.” @BenjiMagnes

Names of God: Yahweh Yahweh

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Yahweh Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Yahweh means I am. 14  God said to Moses, “ I am who I am .”  And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel,  ‘ I am  has sent me to you.’”  (Exodus 3:14) What it reminds me?  God has no beginning or an end.  There is no other god but Yahweh.  He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  And He is our God!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.  I am thankful for the dads in my life.  Thank you to my father who raised me and taught me the importance of hard work.  Thank you to my father-in-law who can fix anything and has fixed all of our cars and things around the house multiple times and for how he raised my wife.

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. From the way you talk about your faith, do people get the impression that Jesus is great, or that you are? @jaredcwilson The first part of a good work is will; the other, a strong effort to accomplish it; the author of both is God. Therefore we are robbing the Lord if we claim for ourselves anything either in will or in accomplishment. Names of God: Yahweh Tsuri

To you, O  Lord , I call;  my rock, (Psalm 28:1) What it reminds me?  Our God is solid as a rock.  Rocks are used as foundations so we rest in God as our foundation.  Rocks are strong so we can trust God is strong for us. Rocks are firm so when life is out of control, we can trust God to be a firm foundation for us.
