We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. This is a new feature on the blog on the names of God.  Why?  Because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Immanuel Immanuel means God with us. 23   “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,      and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Yahweh Magen and Ezer Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Magen means shield. Ezer means help. 20  Our soul waits for the Lord ;      he is our help and our shield. (Psalm 33:20) What it reminds me?  God protects us.  God helps us. Yesterday, I preached from Nehemiah 9:5-15.  I was amazed at how clearly this prayer by Nehemiah described who God is.  However, we have confused and mixed up images of God.  These come from how we were raised, what we were taught, from our culture and a multitude of other places.  Reading Nehemiah's prayer, I was challenged to evaluate how I view God.  Do I (and the answer is yes) have views of God that are not sound biblically? Tozer writes, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. And the second is what we think God thinks of us.” Our view of God needs to be Biblical not based on our favorite author, teacher, speaker or even what we were taught.   We should ask ourselves, is our view of God based on the Bible or someone else’s opinion?
