Word for 2018-Abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for. We will also see these in the Old Testament as well. Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 5  Then the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.” So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth. (1 Samuel 22:5)   23  Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be in safekeeping.” (1 Samuel 22:23) 21  Then David came to the two hundred men who had been too ...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word.   But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

Selected Promises of God from 1 Samuel

I am continuing to share the promises of God from every book of the Bible.  These were compiled by Kenneth Boa.  Here are selected promises from 1 Samuel: “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God” (2:2).   It is God alone who saves us out of all our calamities and distresses (10:19).   “Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few” (14:6). “He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind” (15:29). “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.   Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (16:7). It is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands” (17:47). “The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness” (26:23)
