Names of God: El Nehkumah

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. El Nehkumah El means God and Nehkumah means comfort. He is the God who comforts! 3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, (2 Corinthians 1:3) What it reminds me?  Have you faced recent loss?  Is life not going the way you planned? It is good to know we have a God who understands and comforts us in our difficulties. In this world, we will face trouble, but God never leaves us alone. He walks with us through it all.

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 32  As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. 33  And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34  they offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35  And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36  Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. 37  And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” 38  Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. 39  And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads 40  and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! I

You are Righteous

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Image
This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." I will be sharing songs from my "Gospel Playlist" on my phone. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: No Longer Slaves by I Am They

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. I want to see more broken people come to Jesus.  Let's not get upset about things that don't matter.  Stop fussing. Let's work together. @don_missionUSA @usmbchurches At a church where the goal is to be better and better, the comparison game is strong. When the goal is for Jesus to be clearer and clearer, real change can happen. @JeremyG220 The Gospel isn’t an after thought or a tidy way to tie up a sermon. It’s life. It’s balm. It’s healing. It’s everything. @Thejesslou Despite what most people assume, the greatest commandment is not the standard of Christianity. Jesus Christ is. The gospel is “my commandment.” I am righteous before God because of what someone else has done.  @Byronyawn Repentance is not a work that we perform, but a gift

Word for 2018-abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for.  Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 24 So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God. (1 Corinthians 7:24)   40  Yet in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 7:40) 6  and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may help me on my journey, wherever I go. (1 Corin

Hide N Seek Leader's Meeting

Image
Tonight, I meet with all of our Hide N Seek leaders to prepare them for the year ahead.  These leaders are so important as they "make disciples who make disciples" with our children 4 years old through 4th grade.  It is a blessing to see these leaders use their gifts to glorify God and further His kingdom.  Please remember to pray for leaders who invest in the next generation.  Thank you to everyone who said yes to Hide N Seek, fuzion, LIFE, and Hesston Youth for this year!  We appreciate you and I will definitely pray for you.

Names of God: El Moshaah

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. El Moshaah El means God and Moshaah means saves. He is the God who saves! Our God is a God of salvation,      and to  God , the Lord, belong deliverances from death. (Psalm 68:20) What it reminds me?  In this passage, it was a reminder how he would save the people from their enemies.  God rescues His people from trouble throughout the Bible.  The ultimate salvation occurred through Jesus saving us from sin through His death on the cross as well as defeating sin, death, Satan, and sickness.  I am thankful for a God who rescues and saves.

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.” 12  But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13  Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14  But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. 15  Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16  And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. 17  So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18  For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up. 19
