What does it mean to be "in Christ"?

For 2017, the phrase I am focusing on is "in Christ."  Each week, I will post 1 verse that includes the phrase "in Christ". I look forward to growing in understanding of what it means to be "in Christ." 4  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5  even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— 6  and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7  so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7)

Introduction: My introduction last week focused on various views of God that people in the church and in our culture have.   We looked at who God is based on Nehemiah’s prayer.   God creates, God keeps his promises, God rescues, God provides.   Opening : How do you view yourself? How do you view humans? How do you view characters in the Bible? Abraham-lied, Noah-got drunk, David-committed adultery, killed someone, Peter-denied Jesus, Paul-killed Christians ·          As I mentioned last week, Nehemiah 9 is the longest recorded prayer in the Bible.
