Who is your favorite author?  There are many great authors out there.  I will be sharing over the next several months authors who have helped me grow in grace and the gospel.  I will try and include images of some of my favorite books by them. These will be shared in alphabetical order. Author: Jefferson Bethke

Word for 2019: Holy Spirit

For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. 25  “Therefore thus says the Lord God : Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. 26  They shall forget their shame and all the treachery they have practiced against me, when they dwell securely in their land with none to make them afraid, 27  when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from their enemies' lands, and through them have vindicated my holiness in the sig...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,      and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2  And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,      the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,      the Spirit of counsel and might,      the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord . 3  And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord . He shall not judge by what his eyes see,      or decide disputes by what his ears hear, 4  but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,      and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,      and with the brea...

You are the Body

1  “ Now you are the body of Christ and in dividually members of it." (1 Corinthians 12:27)

God is...

Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

Gospel Playlist

Image
This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: My Savior's Love by Norton Hall Band

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. Our growth in the grace of God is connected closely with our pursuit of the knowledge of God’s character and works as revealed in God’s word. @jaredcwilson From this, one may easily infer, as I have said, that everything good in the will is the work of grace alone. (John Calvin) Love is an action. Jesus showed God’s love for us when He died on the cross to rescue people from sin. #thegospelprojectkids New mercies and sufficient grace, hidden in Christ and righteous by faith, beloved of the Father and sealed by the Spirit... what a way to begin and live this day. @ScottyWardSmith A theologian of glory reads the Bible and sees himself on every page. A theologian of the cross reads the Bible and sees Christ on every page. @ZackJamesCole   ...

New Book Friday

Image
Each year, my Christmas list includes lots of books.  So, at the start of each year, I like to share the new books that I received.  Here is one of my new books for 2019:

Names of God: Elohim

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Elohim   Elohim means one true God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) What it reminds me?  God is worthy of worship for so many reasons but His creation will cause us to praise and worship.  As I look around at humans, animals, flowers, mountains, oceans, and more, I see an amazing work of God.  He made all things.  If He has the power to create everything, then I trust His power over my life.

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. 2  And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. 3  And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God , you know.” 4  Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the w...

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace t...
