Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,      the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary;      his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,      and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary,      and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;      they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;      they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)

You Are Free

“ For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

God is...

Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.

Some of you may know that I serve part-time as social media coordinator for USMB conference.  One of the things I have done on their social media is share Bible verses with images that tie in with the words.  I decided to start sharing them weekly here on the blog. I hope you grow in your understanding of who God is from these verses.

Gospel Playlist

This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: Power in the Blood by Gaither Music

Who is your favorite author?  There are many great authors out there.  I will be sharing over the next several months authors who have helped me grow in grace and the gospel.  I will try and include images of some of my favorite books by them. These will be shared in alphabetical order. Author: Michael Horton

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. The Christian life is supposed to work like this: something wells up inside us and then overflows. @JeremyG220 I don’t know why God answers some prayers immediately and not others. What I do know with full assurance is this: God's given us the freedom to ask him for anything. Perhaps in God’s economy it's most important we have the freedom + faith to ask, + we can rest in His provision. @rebekahlyons The quickest way to shut down your church’s missional response to the gospel is to leverage guilt in motivating them to reach their lost friends... Remember that the gospel will empower on its own. @jaredcwilson One way to kill your prayer life is to overthink it. @jaredcwilson

Names of God: Yahweh Uzzi

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Uzzi Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Yahweh means I am. Uzzi means strength. The Lord is my strength and my shield;      in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults,      and with my song I give thanks to him. (Psalm 28:7) What it reminds me?  When I am weak, God is strong for me.  It is great to know that when life is hard and I feel helpless that I have a God who is strength.

Word for 2019: Holy Spirit

For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19  And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20  But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2  Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,      and cry to her that her warfare is ended,      that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord 's hand      double for all her sins. 3  A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord ;      make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4  Every valley shall be lifted up,      and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level,      and the rough places a plain. 5  And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,      and all flesh shall see it together,      for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” 6  A voice says, “Cry!”      And I said, “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass,      and all its beauty is like the flower of the

You Are Forgiven
