Gospel Playlist

This is a regular feature now that replaced "Playing on the Radio." This week, I am sharing hymns that point me to Jesus. The gospel is good news.  It reminds us what Christ has DONE for us.  As I share, I hope it will be an encouragement to you today.  Song today is: My Faith Has Found A Resting Place by Grace Community Church Congregation

Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. During Jesus’ triumphal entry, the people welcomed Him as King. One day, Jesus will return as King over everything. #thegospelprojectkids The first word of Holy Week was “Hosanna!”;  the next word, “Crucify Him!”; but  the last word was “He is risen!” Jesus, no other king could vanquish sin and evil riding the foal of a donkey. No other king could break the backbone of warfare by the brokenness of crucifixion. @ScottyWardSmith May we rest well tonight in the knowledge that nothing can separate us from God's love or alter our Father's plans for our lives. He is at work in ALL things for our good and his glory. No exceptions. @ScottyWardSmith

Sermon at Hesston MB-Hide and Seek

Introduction: How many of you enjoy a game of Hide and Seek?   Do you enjoy hiding or seeking more?   Throughout Scripture, we see the idea of hide and seek.   So because it is the Hide N Seek program today, I plan to share a few Scriptures to remind us of our HNS Theme Verses: Keep me as the apple of your eye; HIDE me in the shadow of your wings, (Psalm 17:8) & 33  But SEEK first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33) Hide-- Throughout Scripture, God Hides Us ·          When was the first mention of hiding in the Bible?   In the garden, after Adam and Eve sinned. Despite their sin, God found them and shared the gospel for the first time (Genesis 3:15-he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel) ·          All of us are tempted to hide when we sin.   But God through Jesus has made a way for us to not hide, but instead be forgiven. Often when unbelievers and believers are involved in sin, they h

Hide N Seek Program Tomorrow

It's hard to believe that another year of Hide N Seek has come and gone.  Hide N Seek is our midweek ministry to 4 year olds through 4th grade students at Hesston MB Church. Each year we end with a program for families and the congregation.  This used to occur in the evening, but the last few years we have moved it to Sunday during our worship service. At the program, our kid's choir will sing several songs they have learned this year.  You will also hear the Bible verses that each of the age groups have learned during Bible Memory.  I encourage you to come out and support our kids and you will be blessed as they share their gifts of song and scripture with you.  Our worship service is at 10:10 a.m. and our address is 610 W. Randall in Hesston, KS.

New Book Friday

Each year, my Christmas list includes lots of books.  So, at the start of each year, I like to share the new books that I received.  Here is one of my new books for 2019:

Names of God: Yahweh Tsidqenuw

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Tsidqenuw Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Tsidqenuw means righteousness. 5  “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord , when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6  In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousnes

Word for 2019: Holy Spirit

For the past several years, I have chosen a word for the year.  Some of those words have been: God's power, gospel, in Christ, and abide.  As I thought about 2019, the word that I am going to focus on will be Holy Spirit.  So, this is more than just a word, it is a person.  I look forward to growing in my understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does from Genesis to Revelation.  Each week I will share a few verses that are connected to the person of the Holy Spirit. For I will pour water on the thirsty land,      and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring,      and my blessing on your descendants. They shall spring up among the grass      like willows by flowing streams. (Isaiah 44:3-4) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,      because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;      he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,      and the opening of the prison to those who are bound

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord : though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

You Are Alive

1  “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11)

Happy Resurrection Sunday! Christ is risen.

Happy Easter!  What a great day to celebrate that we serve a risen Savior.  Jesus is alive!  This truth is good news to us on Easter and throughout the year.  Every year, I post two songs that help me celebrate Easter.  Enjoy!

God is....

Last year, I wrote a curriculum for our 2nd-4th grade classes at our mid-week program at church called Hide N Seek.  The curriculum focused on who God is. As part of that curriculum, my friend Brittni Rhodes, made images to convey the truth about who God is.  I would like to start sharing these images weekly as a reminder of the good, great, and awesome God we have.
