Biblical Reconciliation by Beth Guckenberger #d62013

Joshua 1:8-Meditate on it day and night.  "Sound a lion makes when it consumes it prey."  We need to consume God's Word. Nobody wants to hear stories that are still in process.  We are not exempt from worthless storylines.   There's nothing you can do to take yourself out of the game. Principles apply to all storylines no matter how dark. God's storyline-Reconciliation, Redemption, Restoration, Rescue, Repair Conflict is like cancer.  It eats away at relationships. Sulhah -covenantal table of reconciliation-person who was hurt takes initiative and offers something to say "I no longer hold this against you."  Examples of Suhlah from Genesis to Revelation:       Jacob & Laban       Joseph & Brothers       Father & Prodigal Son       Peter & Jesus       Revelation 3:20       Jesus & Lord's Supper Not defined by what I have done, but instead freed up to...

Images in parenting to learn from: Cow Leaning on fence. Daughter was like cow, Dad like fence. Daughter pushing against boundary of fence. Dad instead of talking about the bad in the road shared that "Life in pasture better than in the road." Dog dragging back two legs.- "You were created for more than the way your living your life." As a family, talk about what God is doing.  We will not give God excuses. Circles -First circle-perfect shalom of God before Fall; Second circle-Circle over line & circle below line-after the Fall; Third Circles-Two intersecting circle-almond shape eye-kingdom of heaven on earth-We need to live with a foot in each circle (Heaven & Earth) Our Family is like a Tree -Shade for others so that we can better share Christ       When the Lord tells you to do something, we don't say NO.       Prayer Beth prays before she speaks, "Lord, make me truthful, but not impressive."       The mayor gave the key...

Decision Time by Tommy Sanders #d62013

My first pre-con lab at the D6 Conference was led by Tommy Sanders and was entitled, "Decision Time: How to Talk to Children About Becoming a Christian" Christian Education Journal Article highlights research. Connect the conversation with parent instead of pastor.      What must a child feel to become a Christian?      What must a child know to become a Christian?      What must a child believe to become a Christian?      What must child act like or do to become a Christian? Training parents to have conversations with their children about salvation. Foundation, Confession, Progression Major Findings    Pastors have a different type of influence    Parents feel inadequate    Everyone has influence    Inclusion and exclusion can be motivational (Lord's Supper, Baptism)    Use of the language of faith does not indicate understanding (save fr...

He knew he was a sinner, but he had never heard the grace of God. Do you believe in the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ?   For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. (Romans 1:16 NIV) Have we lost the urgency to impress the gospel? We must preach the Word strategically .  We preach at them, but are they getting it?  Ask, Listen, Teach.  Affirm their honesty, open the Word to deal with their questions. We also must teach the Word prayerfully.   May they learn how to pray from us.  Are you interceding? I thought intercessors were either over 80 or for crazy people.   I do not come to pray boldly in faith often enough. We must preach the Word collectively. preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming w...
