Matthew 28:19-20

What is gospel centered discipleship?

Holiness is essential to Christian life. This is vertical discipleship.
Missional is important to Christian life as well. This is horizontal discipleship.

Is discipleship a code word for plate spinning?

Don't put your focus on your holiness or mission, but instead on Jesus. This is diagonal discipleship.

Your life as a disciple is centered on you if you focus on vertical or horizontal discipleship. Jesus break the plates.

Go in authority of Jesus not our piety or mission or our authority. Daniel 7
Are we enamored with our discipler or Jesus?

Discipleship is a community project and a Trinity endeavor. Baptize into Jesus not into us.

Great commission is all about Jesus and in the process we make disciples.
We teach people to obey Jesus. We honor Jesus in honor and repentance.

Holiness makes a bad master. Master Mission is not merciful. What about Master Jesus? Jesus must be at center of our discipleship.

It's all about Jesus and his grace and not on our performance.

How do we do gospel centered discipleship?

Church is a community centered on Jesus.

Fight clubs-groups of 3,4,5
Know Your Sin (What are circumstances? Watch & Pray)
Fight Your Sin (We do this in power of the Holy Spirit)
Trust Your Savior

Discipleship requires effort not earning. Neil Cole-LTG's
Mortification of Sin by Owens.
Sin is false promises and does not keep them. Jesus always keeps His promises.

We need to be people who collect the promises of God.

Fight Clubs Include:
Text (Read and be challenged by God's Word)
Theology (Christ in center of text)
Life (Your application)

I don't have to be punished by you, but instead go to Jesus who was punished for me. If all we do is share burdens, we never get to Jesus.

Strong pride focuses on applause. Weak pride focuses on approval. God opposes both, but give graces to the humble.

Grace flows down!

For every look at sin, look at Jesus ten times.

Make Christ the functional center not application. Create a thick gospel culture.
Give application throughout a message, End with Christ.
