Tweets and more tweets

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the last few weeks.  This is one of the blessings of social media where we can hear the gospel from people all over the world. If you like the tweet, go and follow the person on Twitter. We have so little joy because we water down the law so it doesn’t really mean when it says, and we water down the gospel, so our salvation isn’t really as big as it is. You have to accept the full demand of the law along with the full glory of the gospel. (Jack Miller) Timothy George writes, “The differences matter, but (1)they are second-order; (2)they distinguish but need not divide Baptists from other Protestant evangelicals; (3)they may be gifts to the catholic church; and (4)they may enhance rather than negate the unity of the church.”    No one Protestant house contains the fullness of Jesus. @KevinVanhoozer Only the love of God in Christ will fill you with joy and carry you through the weariness, the boredom, the shame, and the weakness. It will car

Word for 2018-abide

Image
My word for 2018 is abide.  I have this great picture over my fireplace made by a good friend that reminds me to abide each day.  My understanding of abide is to "be with Jesus." What does it mean to abide?  Here are some definitions to help us better understand the word.  The Greek word "meno" which is a verb means "to stay". It can also be translated as abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry for.  Each week I will share a verse (or two) to help us better understand abiding. 5  And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” (Luke 19:5)   29  but they urged him strongly, saying, “ Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. (Luke 24:29)   46  I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkn

Sermon Notes at Hesston MB from God is Good and Great

Introduction: A.W. Tozer writes, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. And the second is what we think God thinks of us.” Opening: How do you view God? 1. “Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God”-God is up in heaven mad and waiting to punish us. 2. Genie God-you just ask God for what you want. No relationship just for the purpose of getting things. 3. Distant God-God created the world and got things started.  Now it is up to us as humans to save the world. God is not personal or interested in relationships just to be respected and worshipped. 4. Santa Claus God-He is making a list and checking it twice.  Trying to find who is naughty and nice.  Or could be called Karma God (you get what you deserve) Our status with God is determined by our behavior and righteousness. He gives gifts to the good, punishes the bad. 5. God Bless the USA God-America is now God’s chosen nation and we better repent of our sins or God will turn his back on us an

Names of God: Yahweh Shammah

We often forget.  We see throughout history the Israelites and the church forgetting. We need to be reminded often of who God is in Scripture, church history and in our lives and churches. The names of God are important because these names are not just what God does, it is who He is.  I hope this will encourage you as you are reminded of how good, great, and awesome our God is. Yahweh Shammah Yahweh is the Hebrew Name for God. It is "I AM". It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.  It was such a holy name that the Jews would not even say it.  Shammah means is there. And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The Lord Is There.” (Ezekiel 48:35) What it reminds me?  No matter whether you are facing good times or bad times, joy or suffering, we have a God who is there.  He walks with us always.  He is not distant, but He is near.  What a comfort to remember God is there beside us each and every day.

Verse of the Week

My Aunt Kay Jean suggested I start sharing a verse of the day.  I liked her suggestion but decided instead of a verse of the day, I would share a verse of the week.  Be reminded of who God is from His Word. 31  He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32  It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”  (Matthew 13:31-32) 33  He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” (Matthew 13:33) 44  “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (Matthew 13:44) 45  “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of

You Are Loved

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)

Sermon Notes from God is....Creator

God is…….Creator Genesis 1 & Selected Verses Introduction: A.W. Tozer writes, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. And the second is what we think God thinks of us.” Intro: David Letterman, late night talk show host, popularized what he called a top 10 list.   Letterman, through humor, was able to create these lists as commentary on politics, Hollywood or current news headlines. This morning, I would like you to create a top 10 list about who God is.   List the ten most important things about Him. God is Creator in the Past (Genesis 1) ·          Vs. 1-God (Elohim) (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) created the heavens and earth. o    Elohim occurs by far the most often in the Bible (2,750×) [1] o    The Bible begins with a clear statement that God made everything. He is the subject of all the things created. o    When—“in the beginning” People disagree on when this is, but for our purposes today, may we agree
