Psalm 1 & Romans 1
For the last two days, I have been spending some time in the first chapter of the Psalms & Romans. I have included the verses below that I have been reading.
Here are a few thoughts that I have written down:
Fruit bearers know & follow God's Word. Am I leading myself, my family, and my church family to focus on the Word?
What is the difference between the chaff & tree by the river? A focus on the Word
God is always watching us!
In Romans, Paul reminds himself that he is called and set apart. We must never forget our calling and how we are set apart for God's purposes.
In verse 2, it talks about promises. What are the promises of God I often forget? Here are just a few for you & me: called, chosen, set apart, loved, adopted, blessed, blameless, sealed, forgiven redeemed, never alone, provided for, gifted.
Then he proceeds to focus on Jesus. Verses 3 & 4 remind us that Jesus is both a man & God. He is powerful, alive, and Lord.
Through Jesus, we receive grace. We must always stay connected to Christ.
As believers, we then "bring about the obedience of faith". Why? For His sake & to reach the nations.
This is a great reminder to me about the importance of the Word of God and to remember our calling and the promises of God. Do you feel blown around? Get into the Word and build a strong foundation that will not be swayed. Are you feeling down? Not sure what is going on? Remember you are called for a specific purpose and you belong to Jesus. Spend some time listing the promises of God. I have started the list for you above.
Psalm 1
1Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.3He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers. 4The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.Romans 1:1-6
1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,
