Leave A Legacy
On Sunday, my message was entitled, "Leave A Legacy" based on Psalm 78:1-8.
Here are a few notes from the message:

Here are a few notes from the message:
- Legacy is defined as "something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past. I started the message by asking what the legacy is of the following people: Bill Gates, Martha Stewart, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan, Hesston MB & you.
- Give ear or listen to the teaching (Hebrew word, Torah) passed down from previous generations. Asaph, the author of Psalm 78, writes about the importance of passing down teaching to the generations to come. I challenged us to not just sit and consume more and more and more knowledge without sharing it with others. The point of Psalm 78.
- Brian Haynes writes, "As you learn to Pray-Teach others to Pray. As you learn Scripture-Teach others Scripture. As you live Authentic Faith-Teach others to live Authentic Faith. As you Obediently Follow-Teach other to walk as Obediently Followers. As you Make Disciples-teach others to Make Disciples. As you Give and Serve-Teach others to Give and Serve. As you live in Community-Teach others to live in Community."
- Life in CHRIST (Hesson's MB's purpose that Brad has been preaching on) never stops with us, it is repeated in others.
- How are you doing in sharing your "Life in CHRIST" with others?
Children
- Vs. 4-We will not hide them (what we have learned and heard from our ancestors). We cannot keep the truth to ourselves. We must pass it on to the next generation by opening our mouths and talking about the "torah" throughout the week not just on Sundays.
- Not only do we need to share this teaching, but we must also share about the "glorious deeds" of God.
- How is your view of God's greatness, power and wonders shared with the next generation? Are you passing on who God is and who we are? Or are you passing on a God who is small, distant, unloving?
- Vs. 5-He commanded us to teach our children. It is not a suggestion. We cannot use the excuse that we are too busy. We cannot abdicate this responsibility to the church, but must realize the great authority and power we have as a parent to pass on faith to our children.
- What is the purpose of this teaching? That they might know them and pass them on to the generations to come.
- Our hope (or trust, confidence in) is in God.
- Have you forgotten what God has done for you? Spend one minute listing what God has done for you.
- Vs. 7-Notice the order: hope in God, remembering the promises, then keeping the commandments. We must not forget that relationship leads to obedience.
