The story of and glory of the church became more important than the story and glory of Jesus Christ.

"I don't want to build a museum, I want to be part of a movement."

Spiritual fruit equals spiritual maturity.  Spiritual maturity equals biblical manhood.

Galatians 5

Are we using methods that are ineffective?

Paul's argument is there is something more powerful than rules.

How Men Grow Spiritually

Fruit grows holistically
    Not separable traits
There is a difference between the fruit of your personality and the fruit of the Spirit.
What book should I buy on biblical manhood?  The Bible

Fruit grows internally

You cannot legislate inner character

Law cannot do anything about the source of sin.  Law can discourage.  Law can deal with actions of sin, but cannot deal with root.

Only the Spirit can change the heart.

Most of the time we will use fear or pride to change behavior.

How do I know if I am doing spiritual transformation or behavior modification?  Pay attention to those closest to you.

Fruit grows gradually

Some of you are so perfectionistic because you are living by the Law than you don't see God moving in your life.

"Those who belong to Christ Jesus"-you have been completely justified before God.  You have full benefits of Christ in your life.  Sin is dead. Judgment day happened.  You have righteousness of God applied to you. You have the same status of Jesus Christ before the Father.  You belong.

If I keep reminding them about the gospel, they won't do want they want but instead do what God wants.  Identity in Christ matters.

You have to kill the flesh. Galatians 5:16, 18. Desires of flesh = Law. Because I do & perform, , accept me God, that is the Law.  The Law is killing us church.  Our kids hate legalism.  What will your flesh do in your life?  It will make the thing your identity (work, family)

Do you understand the enemy?

Fruit grows communally

One of the ways we get free is by serving other people.

Grace is disruptive.

I obey God.  Why?  Because it is my joy.
