Fred Luter at #d62012

Fred Luter, President of Southern Baptist Convention & Pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church from New Orleans, LA.

His topic was "Reaching Men & the Non-Traditional Family"

"Our families are in trouble including those in the church."
Our families and marriages are under attack by the Enemy. This began in Genesis 3.

The cycle of divorce was alive and well in the Luter family (great grandfather, grandfather, parents). Only by the grace of God that I am what I am today!"

"I am confident our kids can never be what they have never seen." Luter prayed, help me break the stronghold of divorce in my family.

"If you save the man, the man will save the family. It all starts with the man."
Our nation won't get right until God's people get right!

"It's OK to be hen-pecked if you have a good head."
48% of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church is men.

Once at church, as pastor I need to equip them from the Word of God.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9-I challenge them to be the family God desires in three areas from the Word of God.

3 Areas
  • The Word of God must be evident in your heart. (verses 5-6)
    • Your heart affects your entire body.
    • We please God when we are obedient to His Word.
    • You have to demonstrate God's love after the benediction.
    • Is it obvious God's Word is in your heart? (home, work, neighborhood, school, campus)
  • The Word of God must be evident in your home (verse 7)
    • I am convinced it all starts in the home based on what I experienced.
    • How many of us take the time to teach our kids about the importance of the Word of God?
    • Talking about the Word of God should be the most natural conversation we have at home.
    • We are losing so many teenagers because they have no home training.
    • Character, morals, right choices, etc. all start in the home.
    • Proverbs 22:6
    • We are not with them 24 hours of day so they need training in the home.
    • We cannot isolate them, but through the Word of God we can insulate them.
  • The Word of God must be evident in your habits. (verse 8)
    •  Mom/Dad, you must be example. Don't make excuses.  If God can change my life, He can change yours too.
    • It's one thing to talk it, but it speaks so loud when you walk it.
    • Children have the tendency to do what they see us do.
    • Our habits have to speak volumes to our kids. (If you want your child to worship, you worship. If you want your child to read the Bible, you read the Bible, etc.)
What is it going to take to transform our world?
  • We must start with the Word of God
