Pornography: Comes from the Greek: pornographos which means "writings about prostitutes"



Facts about Pornography:
  • 42.7% of all Internet users view porn
  • Every second 28,258 Internet users view porn
  • Worldwide pron revenue is over 100 billion
  • Every day 2.5 billion pornographic emails are sent
  • 30% is now viewed by women
 As a church, when are we going to wake up to realities of pornography?

Three Myths about Pornography
  • It doesn't affect me.
    • How has it affected you? is question he always asks.
    • Pornography teaches men to view women as objects rather than be in relationships with women as human beings.
    • #1 area teens as a whole are learning about sex is pornography
    • Script of pornography 
      1. Sex is best experienced outside of a loving relationship.
        • Truth is married people are having the most and best sex
      2. All women want sex from men.
      3. Women like all sexual acts men perform or demand.
      4. Any woman who does not at first realize this can be persuaded with a little force.

    • "The human brain is without question, the most complicated three-pound mass in the universe." (Dr. Joe McIllhaney). The brain is not fully formed until 25-29 years of age. 
      • Neurons that fire together wire together. Your brain becomes trained to sexually cue a computer.

      • Neurochemicals-
        • Dopamine-The reward chemical that makes us feel good for taking risks. This is released when looking at porn.  Sexual addiction is the hardest addiction to overcome.
        • Oxytocin-The bonding hormone that triggers feelings of trust. Genesis 2:24. It is released in the body of a female during birth, while nursing, & during sexual activity. 
        • Vasopressin-The monogamy molecule that causes bonding in males. Helps men bond to wife & children. Duct tape experiment. Bonding mechanism becomes damaged when looking at porn or sleeping around.
        • Michael Leahy has written a book called Porn Nation
        • Pornography is a symptom of something deeper. 
        •  An addiction is something that used to fill a void that a relationship is supposed to fill

    • Women report feelings of anger, loss, betrayal, mistrust, devastation.

Questions
  • How do you help someone struggling with pornography?
    • Most kids are not looking for pornography.  Pornography is looking for them. 
    • We have to get rid of the lie that we can pray about it and take away the desire.
    • Grace infiltrates every aspect of their being and they see God as loving and welcomes them home.
    • They are set free through accountability, community, mentoring.
  • How can the church respond?  What are practical steps?
    • Support groups-people sharing testimonies
    • Equip parents early!
